2.9 V6 flywheel(s) sizes.......? Putting a 2.9 V6 into a Mk3

Hello all, I hope you can help me...... I have what i have ben 'told' is a 2.9 V6 flywheel, and also, what i have been told is a clutch for 2.9 V6 engined Transit ...... so far with me.........

The flywheel seems too big for the clutch, how can i tell if i have the wrong flywheel, the wrong clutch, or both ?

The clutch friction plate has a dia. of 265mm, does anyone recognise this measurement.....?

The flywheel has been used with a friction plate 243mm dia. , i can see where it has pressed against the flywheel.

So, in short, do i have a 2.9 V6 flywheel do you think, or not, or is the 2.9V6 flywheel on Transits a different size to that found on Grannys/Sierras?.... surely not ?

i think 240mm is what i am useing on my 3ltr v6! and thats a clutch that is pinto ,di etc!

i just measured the old friction plate that came with my genuine transit v6 2.9i and it is 265mm diameter, though i do not have a flyfheel to measure

Thanks, hmmmm, that helps me a bit.....

I have this clutch kit that is supposed to be for a a 2.9 V6 transit, and it is 265mm dia, so that seems to be right then .......

... however this flywheel is also supposed to be a 2.9 flywheel, and it is too small...... i really cannot beleive that Ford fitted two flywheel sizes depending on the application that the 2.9 as going for ...?

i have one i dont want to sell but i can measure it when i split it! shouldnt be too long but then again i have been told its the same as something else - not sure what or if it was true

sure the flywhel isnt a 2.8 v6?

also does the flywheel fit the engine?it could be a 4 cylinder flywheel.

..... No, i am not sure the flywheel is NOT a 2.8, it might be.... How do i tell the difference? I bought it in good faith believing it to be a 2.9 ...

guessing from the engine, as the starter is still attached, the flywheel is 290mm diameter from the tips of the ring gear teeth

looks about right.... i have just measured the flywheel i have got, 292mm in dia or so, so about the same as yours... the picture, is that a 2.9 v6 motor?

yep, its an ex-police transit 2.9i v6

bollox, why is this clutch kit too big then...? it is described as being for a 2.9 v6 transit..... someone is lying ..

have you got the clutch from the engine in the photo at hand at all? you couldn't photo or measure the friction plate could you please?

... sorry i see you already have measured it!!

... but i don't see how the 265mm dia friction plate will mate up to
that sized flywheel, it is just too big .....

does anyone have a working flywheel/friction plate that they could
measure for me, please?

diameter 265mm, friction material 47mm wide
cover plate

mounting hole to opposite side mounting hole 305mm, diamerter 326mm

the cover plate measures bigger than the fly wheel?????????? unless the ring gear is not on the outter edge of the flywheel it is impossible,

i have just checked with the preivious owner and he swears that clutch definatly came off that engine!!!!
