The London Borough of Ealing helped customise my nearside front wheel this afternoon, by carelessly dumping a kerbstone in the road, it was so white I thought it was a piece of paper till it was too late

my mate ran over a manhole without a cover - wrote his car off and couldnt sue them
but i suppose somebody could

You won't get anywhere with the council. I drove over a kerbstone (Kerb Rock really) that had beed dislodged and was in the road on a small roundablout and the first I knew of it was when the van launched into the air and several large bangs, pulled over, the wheel was fine but the sill was trashed. The official answer from the council was that they were not liable for something that was on the highway as it was down to me to see. You can be sure they would have wanted me to pay if I had mounted the kerb and knocked the stone out, they actually made this comment also asking had I seen the person/s that had cuased the damage indicating that it was these people that I had to sue. Someone is liable but you try and find out who, good luck. The cost of a wheel is way too small for the effort, my repairs were a fair bit over that. To be fair in my case it was what I needed to get me do do some other work done at the same time so the extra for the sill didn't add that much to the whole job. still sucks though but you won't get any joy from the council.
Think how many vehicles get damaged on the really high sleeping policemen that are about and non filled potholes or plain uneven roads that shake you to bits, a complete non starter I think.

i know this is a transit forum but about 3 yr ago i buckled 4 wheels on the forth road bridge when i was headin into edinburgh . for those who have never been across it . the bridge is made up of these massive metal plates that are about 20ft x 20ft well after thay replaced the road surface on the bridge thay forgot to smooth the edges of one of these plates whitch was raised by about 4 inches along comes me in a bog standard vectra gsi phase 2 . and hit it when i got to the other side of the bridge there must have been 8 other cars there all modefied motors . the company that runs the bridge f.e.t.a. closed it after my mishap (sods law) i knew one of the other drivers who was stranded aswell ....forward to the claim time every one claimed for 4 new tyres and alloys forward to 2 weeks later me and the other guy got the same letter sayin "we are unable to take responsibility for the damage to your vehicle as the damage was centerd on after market accessories i.e wheels and tyres ....... my m8 whent to his layer who told him that this was correct so that left him £2000 out of pocket cos he wouldnt claim his insurance.
so to my claim i responded to there letter by stateing that my vehicle was a standard vectra gsi and the damage was sustained to standard wheels yes thay were alloys but thay were standard wheels from vauxhall. response from f.e.t.a would you take a cheque there is always a way of gettin your money outta them .

The Ealing roads in general are in cr*ppy condition,the council have let them go down hill in the last 10 years.Imagine if you had been driving a "normal" car? could ripped the wheel off.I'm sorry about your damage,will a FBH sort the dent out?
I spend 95% of time driving in London in my Transit-thank god,i'm sure i would knackered a few motors by now.
Try driving through Greenford Broadway towards Northolt,the tarmac is like a bloody ploughed field.I'm going to fit sump guards to my 1600e and my financee's Dolomite Sprint just to drive round here!

Must admit I haven't been up Greenford Broadway for a good few years now (past my old school...... entrance now blocked).
I think its modern council policy, they have been to India,seen that if the roads are in REALLY poor condition you can't drive fast ( plus of course having thousnds of residents milling around on foot constantly,slows the cars down too )

had a similar situation i hit a pot hole in the road and knackered one of my allys i contacted the council and asked them what they was prepared to do about it. they told me to get a quote for the damage and they would sort it. i got a quote for a brandnew set of wolfrace 17's and the footed the bill very nice and thankyou very much!!! .they got it back in council tax anyway

Terry hadn't thought of that angle-maybe the council is not as stupid as you would think?Yes they are.To step into HOT water-Southall Broadway roads are as smooth as a babies bum,work that out?
I now live just up from Greenfod Hall,what school did you go to?I wonder if it's the one we use to battle in the later 70's/early 80's?-showing my age.
I'm SURE Ealing Council will not wear paying out for any damage to our motors.I've gone up against them many times for parking tickets and there a loads of gits!
