You would be forever snapping them Luke, stainless studs have no (very little anyway) tensile strength, use high tensile studs and get yourself some ceramic spray to stop them seizing up and corroding, 'off-shore' is what I use, its about a fiver a can but you wont use a full can if you put it on every nut and bolt on the van :D I've been using the same can for over two months and I use it every day!

mabe i'll use HT then  i was only thinking the stainless wont be affected by the temp, i know they arnt as strong but i thought compaired to the heat affected steel ones they would be stronger :?

sorted the gearbox - the crossmember is handed - ie the mount isnt in the middle  pritty obvious really

update - wireings in, so to speak, but ive still got the injector relay, fuel pump relay and the fan relay to wire up - for this i need a box mounted on the o/s inner wing :D
also ive go a problem that the servo fouls the plenum, not by a lot but enough to matter :x

so to get it running these are the jobs left to do :D

Mount coil pack

Relay box - fit and wire in

Battery - mount under seat and run wires!

gearbox crossmember - finish modding

propshaft - shorten and fit (wont stop me getting the engine running tho)

sort servo/plenum clearance problem

fuel tank?????

wire up cooling fan (allready fitted just need wiring)

finish o/s manifold and fit both of them

make up exhausts - just 2 temporary systems to get it running and MOT'd before i take them off and fit the turbos 8)

i think thats all :) so not a lot

made a coil pack mounting bracket today :D

Image

this will bolt to the bulkhead behind the engine and the coil will bolt to it - unfortunatly i will need to remove the plenum to get it out if the coil pack ever needs replacing :x but it does fit well there and looks neat 8)

fitted the coil bracket today :D

also done the g/box x/member :) - but didnt have time to paint it or trial fit :(

now the relays  - my mate has a Treg laguna and it has a box with 2 relays on the o/s inner wing looks perfect for what i need - problem is ive emailed everone breaking a laguna on ebay and they dont have them - so anyone know another car that has 2 vertically mounted relays in a nice neat box that would do the trick :?:

well there is the fan relay  was just gonna fit that either at the other side or under the dash :? its only cos these 2 have a load of wires and would be messy to get them all through the bulkhead or i'd put them there too :(

i will look at a vectra one tomorrow as a guy at work has one :D

progress today

still working on the relay box - bit of luck i'l be fitting it next weekend!! but ive got a lot more done tidying up the wireing :D

got my downpipes tacked together today and the brace for the o/s manifold to engine mount!! the down pipes ive just used old exhausts cut up - the n/s one is a Di front pipe and it couldnt be more suited 8) - i should at least be able to get the engine running now but more work is needed - i could do with a could of cheap silencers to fit :? i'll have to do a bit of reaserch on what would do the job ok!
fuel tank - i was wondering if the one i have on the ambilance would work - it has an external electric pump - but im not sure how the filler neck would fit with it being at the other side - i may just use the pump and forget about a swirl pot for now- just keep that tank full :?

I cant say i've seen the fuel tank on an Amby but it will have a built in swirl pot, I'm sure you could make it fit

if its off a mark 3 ammby then it has got a swirl pot in it as thats the tank im using on my cossie, but the pump isnt strong enough it will let the engine tick over but it doesnt pump enough pressure to run properly you will have to change it im running a sierra cosworth pump and its fine

got a relay box today from the scrappys - none of the laguna ones had 2 relays like the one i saw on my mates so they were no good, but the one i got was of a vauxhall vectra i think - it has 2 relays and 2 fuses :D
only thing is the 2 fuses are very big 30amp and i dont know if i'll be able to get fuses small enough for what i need - the pump is 20amp i think that might be ok :? just gotta get up and fit it now :)
