hi there ive got a 1999 smiley mk5
ive also had the headach of the dreded transit steering wheel boss hassle
I found one i cross referenced fitting and it was right bought it straight away !
(mountney ford transit 1986 steering boss hub traditional)
it was £23.35 from motorsport-tools.com
I had the order received email
payment received email
item ready for dispatch email
result

NO !

I had a paypal refund message this morning
and an email from motorsport tools saying sorry we no longer stock the item ive looked for you but cant find any else ware thanks for shopping with us .

straight past anger I went not happy at all !

ive ended up using the helpful info on this forum

escort mk1, capri 123, Anglia, Cortina 2, are the same fitting ( mountney 1026x)

I found a hand made one off boss for a mk1 escort on ebay from (hot-fords) £35 purchased it straight away
fingers crossed its the same
still leaves the problem of the large top spline

ive took the approach its easier and less damaging to modify a boss and leave the shaft as is
probably better to make a top notch too rather than torque the nut down till it sorts it own groove (might damage the shaft)
that said steel is harder than alloy might just work one way to find out

anyone else had the problem with motorsport tools ?

two things they should make for the 1986 - 2000

clear rear light clusters or newer style ones that drop in

STEERING WHEEL BOSSES !

ill post again when my steering boss turns up ,doesn't fit, and self destructs

or hopefully just works
