Any idea how difficult a 2.4 TDCI 140 into MK2 Di would be?

I dunno if you were askin me to elaborate, or one of the other guys, but basically i was thinking it would be cool to have a modern 140bhp MK7 transit engine in a MK2 Body, and was wondering did anyone else have any advice/tips/warnings etc.

The other options would be:

-Nissan 2.8 straight 6 diesel with big turbo and a nissan box, and 4 wheel drive

or

-Four wheel drive using county parts and a Di

-Turbo converted Di.


I basically want to do something mad with a MK2 transit, but dont want to go down the route of a cossie turbo or a V8, as i think A tricked out transit with a diesel engine would be cool

duratorq is a lot more reliable than a smelly old turbo di, and about half the weight and about twice as economical and twice as quite and twice(or maybe three times ) as quick and twice as smooth infact to put it in a nutshell TWICE BETTER

just a guess but i'd think a Turbo Di would be twice as easy to fit

you can fit any engine into mk2 transit

virtually anything will fit in anything with a bit of work - obviously within reason, you'd have trouble getting a jaguar straight six in a punto for instance

What about a toyota hiace 2.8di engine

If you want reliabilty you cant go past one

I have a 1995 2.8 hiace i got it at chrismass and it had 150000km on it its now got 212000km thats 60000km in just 4 months and it hauls it will flog a sprinter, and no worries passing an iveco daily as they're always on a back of a tow truck broken

The late mod transits are hard to catch on the flat but they run out of puff up hills and are renowned for poor reliabilty

We got a brand new 2007 3.0tdi slwb hiace yesterday and WOW these things fly

to be honest i'd pick the newer engine

in the same way modern petrol engines are more complex so are the diesels

people happily fit cossie 24vs to their vans, u dont see them using old carbed cologne v6s because they're shite so although the modern engine has more to possibly go wrong its good points far outweigh bad ones.

the duratorq will be more efficient, cleaner, quieter and more powerful that an old scabby di engine and miles more tunable too

as for them being unreliable, ive not heard or much bar tensioner issues but thats something u'd just check and fix like any recall

and modern engines DO last longer if maintained simply because the materials and build tolerances are spot on

how many 10 year old modern 16v engines do u see reeking out blue smoke compared to ten years ago looking back at the engines that were available back then!
