Rear Axle swap??? non transit!! - help needed!!

how about a ford 9" axle of a american car or van ?

problem is they are rare and expensive a good condition pajero one with lsd and good ratio went for £10 on ebay the other day - just a shame its no good for me - i allready have the wheels i want and they dont have a massive offset

just a thought but i read somewhere that the old 1600cc tranny ran what is know as ATLAS axle as used in high performance fords racing rallying etc and they also ran in the drag racing along side volvo axles these already have discs to boot

they do - problem again is cost - to get an LSD in one is big bucks the volvo one is mabe a possibility if i can find one wide enough - i think they are dana axles

That is if it's RWD. I honestly don't know..

Hello Luke.
I probably won't get the chance to measure my 940 estate but have worked out roughly what the axle width should be.
The track width is 1460mm
Wheel width is 6"
Wheel offset is 25mm

If I have done it right the axle should be 1510mm disc face to disc face.

Although they are a bit narrow for what you want it might be easier to use adaptor type spacers to get the correct width. The hubs don't suit re-drilling as they have large holes between the studs.

im not sure with spr*nters - i'm just guessing they are too wide - cant discount it untill ive measured one

thanks mate - i appreciate that but its a little too much to bridge with adapters they would need to be 65mm each but its getting closer

if you could - it would be helpful - do you know what year it was the ratios in those can be a little too relaxed 3.5:1 ish im ideally looking for 3.7:1 - 4.1:1

been and measured that 9" rear axle today and its about 1590mm drum face to drum face but not sure on what diff is in it and obviously the stud pattern is 5 stud american ford.

How much do you need to shorten the axle by each side of the diff?
