:? :? :?
If it's one thing I did notice when I first heard my van, was the fact it was a bit noisy compared to what I was used to :(
I do feel it's got a bit noisier :!: :x Is the EPIC on it's way out :?:

Now I've worked out my box of Dynamat Xtreme is running out fast :!:

The seats are out :!: And I need the van for work Monday morning :!: :(
Can't buy anymore Dynamat tonight so will have to go for what was a "save yourself a load of money Andy and buy some Wickes roof flashing" "It's the same sort of thing, only a lot cheaper"

So out I go and buy the widest roll they do :!: :D
Yes it was cheap :!:
And it sort of does the job :!:

It's half the thickness and less than half the weight of the same size :!:

Well I was really glad I had enough Dynamat to do the central part of the floor and the footwells :!: :D

Pressing hard into those ribs :!: :D

This isn't rust :!: It's waxoyl :!: :D

Finished the floor using the Wickes roof flashing :!:  Applied it in two layers :!: (so not as cheap as you might have thought :!:
Oh, one more thing :!: It stinks of bitumen :!: :x Where as the Dynamat is completely odourless :!:

Mat's back :!: :D :D

Well It's killed the noise coming through the floor :!: :D :D

All that bulkhead/firewall effort has only reduced the sound of the engine to how my old van sounds :!:
I did actually expect more from that :!:

Oh well  On to the next stage :!:

Is Dynamat a similar stuff as the roof flashing then and what was the cost comparison. I tried to sound proof my bulkhead panel without removing the dash, after fitting the diesel... much respect there Andy, but I used jute boot liner, http://www.automobiletrim.com/boot-lining.html I was amazed how well it worked, but its not enough of course. 2Kw of sound isnt enough   I was thinking of doing what you have done and the engine bay as I dont have sound proofing in there at all. Like everything I have done :( its got to be on a budget
I think youve done grand job there, look forward to your next installment

My opinion is,that's it's not :!:
It really is a very cheap and poor imitation  (not saying that the flash manufacturer was trying to imitate Dynamat)It was never sold as anything other than roof flashing :!:

It really needs two if not three layers to match Dynamat's thick foil backed bitumus pad and so that adds to your labour :!:
Not to mention that your van will have to be driven with the windows open :!: :o for the first week or two :!:
Also, not too sure if it would still be stuck to my ceiling, if it was up there :!:

There are other brands out there that are cheaper than Dynamat :!:
I would imagine that they would actually be far superior to Wicks roof flash for this task  http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/243008

On we go to the next part of the project :!:

Slightly disappointed with the fact of still being able to hear the engine :x
The next thing was to clean up under the bonnet, after the van was in the bodyshop :!:
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=26443

Talk about a bit of dust :!:    And sort out the insulation from the source of the noise :!:

The dynamat does a good job at stopping sheet metal from resonating and vibrating by loading the panel :!:
 So a different material would be required to stop the engine noise :!:

Managed to purchase a brand new insulation pad for the passenger side, but not (unfortunately) for the drivers side :( :(
Removed the old insulation first :!:

Image

Wipe down the panel with spirits :!: :D
Image

Image

Pulled down all the cabling :o
Image

Now looking at all the awkward shape of that bulkhead/firewall, I can see I'm in for a bit of fun :!:
