I always say that this actually makes 4 wheel drive, just all four wheels are on the same axle!

i think the phrase your looking for is ... "we're screwed !!"

the fronts are not too hard, take off the front hub extenders and fit the 5 bolt plates instead (of course this means 2 spares needed :( but there are ways to do this using the space either infront of the fuel tank or the space on the driverside underneath, re-routing the exhaust, or adding a rear door carrier)

The backs are a little more tricky because the studs are in the hub inside the rear drums,, and the studs arent really long enough to do anything with. Best i can suggest (without having to re-drill both the hub and drums) is to look maybe at american pickups that run dual rears, or make adapter plates, and punch the studs out and thread the hub, then screw the adapters into the hubs through the drums. But here is the important bit, the adapter plates should be a strengthened type of steel not just regular mild steel and sufficiently thick enough to carry the replacement studs, if possible making the new studs inside the radius of the screws holding the plates, thus reducing the "peeling" effect that might be placed on the adapters.

in the event that the screws that hold the plates in place come loose the wheels should hold them in place

But your back to the same old problem, you still need to find wheels that will accomodate the hubs and offsets required, and the further out you stretch things width ways the greater the side loading you place on the bearings, it might be easier as you have on your stretch to just find 2 huge wheels to go on the back :P
another way swap front hubs and redrill and fit adapter plates to the back theres loads of room just look at the offset on a twinwheel fitted on the back - but you would have to go single rear wheel!!! :D

yeah it has 5 studs but they dont look like transit pcd i'd guess there adapters!!! :D
and i see no reason you cant do it off a 6stud axle - you might struggle of a later single rear 6 stud though, because of the width!!!!

OK folks i now have a set of alloys for my van :D

and over the next few weeks ill be getting some prices for having the adapters made:-

Anyone who is still interested in a set PM me!!!

i just need an idea of how many, the more i get the more the price comes down! I can also give people an idea of what wheels will fit and can get the adapters drilled to suit almost any 5 stud wheel!!

My stud pattern has been changed to 114.3mm PCD
My front hubs are redrilled i will take detailed pics on the week end there is a fair amont of machining needed but its well worth it

Changing the rear PCD is very easy wether its 5 or 6 stud
Remove brakes and axles and take them to an engineering firm and have them weld up the original holes in both the drum and axle get them machined true and redrill to whatever PCD you want

If the boss in the centre of the axle/hub is too large for the new wheels you can either have the bore in the wheel turned out or have the boss turned down but rember the rears can only go as far as the drum as it needs somthing more than the studs to keep it in position

I have just been through this with my MK4 Cortina
Yeah i know its big green and rusty so move your Porsche before i bash it with 460 cubes of fords finest cast iron

Mate i would be interested to see the piccs!
I'm going to have the fronts re drilled on mine (mk1) but is that aslo possable on a mk3?
the problem i can see with the back is what will hold the brake drum tight -is your aussy axle the same as a uk one?? on mine the brake drum doesnt seem go over the studs fully when converted to the smaller pcd!!!

If its posssable without adapters i'll certanly give it a go!!!

OK luke here's the pics of my front hubs and rear brakes/axle
sorry to those that are on dial up

In the pics of the front hub you can see where the standard 160 pcd was
The hubs have been turned down to a dia of 155mm
The studs have been relocated to give a pcd of 114.3
The studs fit is a 4mm deep recess in the rear of the hub

Cheers mate!!

but yeah the back aussy axle is different!!!
but it is good to see the fronts re-drilled - at least i know it can be done!!!

but i think we need adapters on the Uk back axle!!! :(

How did you find the steering on the front with the wider tyres? and how wide are your tyres?
Im looking at 205s on the front (its about as wide as i can fit under the arches) - dont tell me all aussy mk2s have PAS as standard!!
