Theres a very simple answer as to why I've used universal parts from older cars, cost and availablity.
The range rover lights do look very good, my wife said that the other day when we followed one. Only problem is the cost of them cheapest I've found them for is £65 each side ranging up to £300 for smoked. WIPAC lenes in coloured or clear £4 each make your own mind up.

you mean using gel coat to give the the surounds colour. Only problem is getting a perfect colour match between gel coat and pannel. I'd rather just supply in grey, white or black then colour matching can be done by customer.

mk3-4-5 rear light pics

Postby chunkychap247365 » Sat Jan 10, 2009 2:21 pm

These will be the surounds for the indicator and brake light, I've recessed the lenes by building up the sides and shaping them alittle. Hopefully I'll have pics of the finished units by the end of the weekend.

This part saves me trying to get both sides to match. So I'll inlay this into the OE rear light to do the mould for the right side then cut this part out and turn it round to do the other side. The reverse and fog lights will be under this part but as yet the finished part has'nt been made to show it.
I'll use this part to make the mk6-7 lights as well as it'll save time.

I've got a small dilemma with the reversing lights. Either use small LED lights that show white light that don't project light like a head light at night or don't add them to the rear cluster units and let people add reversing lights to the bumper. Thoughts please?

i would say add the led lights, as i dont think many people would like to wire up new reverse light or cut out their bumper.

i wouldnt mind but sure some people will.

I've had a bit of a set back with the mk5 rear lights, in my hast to take the moulds from my finished masters (that took 3 weeks of filling and sanding!!!) I've not put enough release agent on them and smashed both the masters and moulds trying to seperate them, oh B*ll*cks !!!!
So the next lot will be have latex moulds and may or may not be done in epoxy resin instead of fibre glass. Back to the drawing board.........
