Have a look at this van - 4 stud conversion (i dont think id advise it myself :? with all the height/weight of a transit i think i'd rather stick to 5 - but if its working ok on that van :) cant be bad!)

The later "ugly" scorpios were only 4 stud, so those fronts are either sierra or late scorp.

Ive never done the conversion before, but im told its possible - it gives the advantages of making the brakes 260mm vented ones up front too

adapt plates.

Postby sixwheelphil » Mon Mar 14, 2005 11:57 pm

Hate to bring a negative vibe in, but I have to say, I've had a swb on adapter plates, it made a lot of difference to the steering, heavier and even more wandery. Not good, and on the same van, I've been through the, "you can't have car tyres on that, they've got to be 6ply" thing.

handbrakeone, perhaps you can advise on what to demo and what to avoid over here. Though I still need the thing to be able to move once new speakers installed!

Watch out for those 9 batteries though! Try Paddington Springs for bigger springs.......

Phil why do you think that was? did you go very wide? and what (car) tyres did you have on?
in theory say BMW 3 series 15" alloys (fitted with transit commercial tyres) with an ET +42 with 20mm spacers would make less of an offset that the steel wellers that im using at the moment! and after fitting the wellers it didnt seem to wander anymore than before, the steering was a touch heavier buy still fine!

Luke, not sure why, can only guess that pushing the wheels out put a bit extra strain or pressure on things. Never looked into it, just kept driving.
Didn't go very wide at all, 5.5 or 6.5j, that's all they were, plus the adapter. The car tyres were some low profile part worns I got for nothing, 60 series 185's, or there abouts, it was a while ago, so can't be dead sure.

WILL. the BEST advice i can give you is to STAY WELL AWAY FROM SHELF SPEAKERS (6x9's) as they are crap except for certain uses. all you need is a reasonable set of components in the front only running mid/top....no bass. (spend as much as you can on components) and even a cheap 12" sub like sony explode (no more than £45 for sub) and a reasonable 3 channel amp with a low pass filter and you will be so impressed. e-mail manjitbasin@bassmechanix and tell him stevie vectra sent ya. i love carpets me! ps you anywhere near newcastle?
