Lookabout on google, there's loads of info about noseweight/handling (and everything else to do with trailers), like this link http://www.practicalcaravan.com/feature ... eight.html

Also your towbar is only rated to take so much downward force from the trailer coupling

could prob get 1 of these cheap at the market or even scrappy ,i take it this would be a better van to do it to as it has the longer over hang? where would u nd to cut it in half? also i would want a low roof insteat of the extra high would that be easy to do?

As luke says you need the axle just behind the centre of the trailer, ideal nose weight is 50-100kgs

have u got any of escort vans u could post on here mate :D

that would be ideal :D - get rid of the high roof - fit a low roof or a shr - infact a shr would be easy as it be full length if it was from a lwb

i think i'd also loose the little panel from behind the side door :D

i see what you mean but - you might end up with too much weight behind the wheels :? and have negative nose weight - ie pulling up on the towball :( thats not good really needs to be pushing down a little :D

but having said that you can really tell from looking at pica you really need to get the tape measure out

My old man built one from a Volvo 240 estate. The balance is great and it tows brilliantly - in France he had the car towing it off the clock on a downhill and it remained rock steady. He has towed thousands of miles with it and I've found it tows very well. About the onlt downside is that it is not exactly a light trailer but it is very versatile.

I am in the process of making a trailer for Fred from a mk2 twin wheel minibus. Losing weight is the first job. It is being cut just behind the B pillar and as it has a reasonable overhang balance should be ok. I am using a caravan overrun brake system linked to the transit handbrake linkage. Use of fibreglass will keep weight down and I am removing some of the windows. Progress thread will be coming soon :D
