I THOUGHT I WOULD PUT MINE ON THE OTHER DOOR, ONLY THING IS, DOESN'T IT COVER YOUR NUMBER PLATE? OR HAVE YOU POSITIONED IT HIGHER, ALSO HAVING IT ON THE DOOR HE HAS GOT IT ON IT WILL BE OUT IN THE ROAD WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN.

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

THE SPARE WHEEL CARRIER PROBLEM HAS NOW BEEN SOLVED, I WENT TO THE VAN SHOP TODAY, GOT ONE FOR A FORD ECONOLINE, WHICH WILL FIT PERFECTLY, AS YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT STUD PATTERNS, THERE IS ONE BOLT THAT GOES THROUGH ANY STUD HOLE THEN ANOTHER BOLT WHICH GOES THROUGH THE CENTRE WITH A BIG PLATE WHICH HOLDS THE WHEEL IN PLACE. IT LOOKS LIKE AN A FRAME, ONE FITTING JUST UNDER THE TOP HINGE THE OTHER JUST ON TOP OF THE BOTTOM HINGE THEN A THIRD FIXING NEAR THE LOCK, CAN BE USED ON EITHER DOOR. ALSO GOT A STAINLESS STEEL WHEEL COVER. IN TOTAL £175. SORTED :D :D :D

This is what it looks like off the van and with it mounting either side of the door I would say it sounds quite strong.

i am just a little sceptical about the weight, i have seen these rear door hangers before, where they mount to the same point as the door hinges, but only clip to the door so they can pivot with the door

IT'S THE ONE ON THE LEFT THAT IV'E GOT , THEY ARE VERY STRONG,AS ALL THE YANKEE VANS HAVE THEM FITTED, I CAN'T SEE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WEIGHT ON THE DOOR, WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE SIZE OF A LANDROVER WHEEL, THEY GO ON THE BACK DOOR AND THEY ARE ONLY THIN ALUMINIUM.

IN TOTAL £175. SORTED

Ive asked a question about the spare wheel carrier on Blue Van Mans van and have been directed here, but this thread hasnt really answered any of questions other than it could cost me £175, ouch!
I know a long time has passed since this article was posted, great van by the way, I'd be interested on how to mount the spare on the back, bracket, reinforcing etc. Has anyone else done this? http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=109279#109279

Has any made their own carrier at all or or can someone give me any tips on how to make one. After looking at the van shop site, im not sure I want to pay £60 - £70.
Thanks Alan

I made one to fit the inside of the door :D

Basically a square of flat bar about 6"x6" bolted to the door with 3 bits of threaded rod welded too it that fit the PCD of the wheel. bit of ply over so you cant see it and just put the wheel on and tighten the nuts up.

No reason wht you cant make one for the outside. just needs to be neater

Did you add any extra metalwork to spread the load out on the door skin or did you just use the frame? Im sure I could adapt a Land Rover one or similar. :D
