I'm pretty sure they both have the same fitment for the bellhousing as they are the same block.

I don't think you'll have any problem as long as you stick to the A4ld vacuum operated gearbox.(eary type)

All of the Granada variants had an Auto option as far as I know even the cosworth  (even though the later they were the more electronic they became)

What axle ratio do you have at the moment :?:

I used to have one of those, every thing was fine including the power :D the fuel consumption was another story :( I was always in the petrol station

Those days, any money I made was going straight into the tank :!:

Then having talked to somebody about their fuel consumption on their manual diesel I honestly just didn't beleive them  just couldn't see it :?
He swore blind that he could get 400+miles out of one tank

Well, needless to say, I was looking to convert to diesel but my so called mechanic clearly found every excuse to put me off the conversion :?

So I borrowed money :( and went for a smiley with manual gearbox :D I was driving around and thought my fuel gauge wasn't working until I pulled into the fuel station and filled up
Working alright  That van paid for it's self :D

NO doubt you'll be far better off with the fuel injected petrol engine :D The efficiency of the petrol injection engine and extra power you'll get from it will be far superior than what Ford put on as a carburettor

Also it will be faster, but how much faster do you want to go :?:  :?:

I didn't realise when I bought my '96 van that you had different engine powers, options of all kinds etc. etc..

That's how I've ended up with a TDI Auto :D Noisey but nice :D

Well i have a 2ltr DOHC engine and it has no probs getting off the mark quick and over taking...Will easily do 80 on the motorway as well :) Even though my engine has been knocking for the last 45k its still one of the best ones ive had for speed and power :)
Cheers Mike

Mate my van has the 2.0l inj dohc and it runs like a dream, has quick pull away, great motorway cruising speed and responds well to dropping a gear to overtake at speed :D, the only down side is the economy, a diesel gets far more milage out of a tank  but the only time i would change the engine would be to drop a cossie lump in there :P yes i am dreaming again

Mate 17" wheels will mean slower acceleration :( but higher top speed :D (power allowing)

Sounds to me your problem could be your torque converter not working properly :?

If the engine doesn't rev at all when your going to pull away from rest and just increases it's speed as the van has started to move along, you have stator slip :!: :( This will give you snails pace acceleration until your up to about 10 or 15 mph  :!: Is this what you have :?: :?:

That's worng mate! It all depends what tyres you have!
If you put low profile tyres on you can have exactly the radius as if you had standard wheels!

225x40x17 is smaller than a standard transit tyre, I know it depends on which model you have but most I have seen have been 195x70x14.

Here is a tyre size calculator which will tell you how much the difference is and how far out your speedo will be compared to standard tyres.
