from memory i broke a chyrsler voyager with remote operated side doors they use a screw mechanism which means they are secure as you cant force a big threaded bar without using massive force. They would be easier as i think they were self contained units with all the switches built in. The one we had also had remote tailgate which used what looked like a gas strut but was a motor turning a screw, these would easily open a tailgate or two would open rear doors. From memory they also had emegancy bolt heads on the ned that could be opened using a ratchet with a 13mm socket.

I've talked to a guy who used 2 of these to open/close his front gates.... running them on 12v too...

those ones might be a bit short at 24inches.... but iirc you can message the guy and he can do different lengths, and heavy duty ones too !

Actuators are tooooo slow when running linear, OK for hinged doors, would be great for a gulwing door

Ive just bought a single rear door to swap at the back. It doesnt have the pistons, so these may be an option with a remote operator??

vw have it on some of their transporters, opens one or both, depending on the button you press, works very well....it's fitted on the vans with seats in the back....didn't pay much attention to how it worked i'm afraid (didn't own a van at the time..)

Some of the Vauxhall estate cars have this too, had a look at one briefly in a carpark yesterday, still had the 2 gas struts which must be set to balance the door weight at any position, couldnt see any leaver, so it must be hidden in the roof hinge assembly. Openned and closed from the key, very cool

You could use a linear actuator to do it.

i know this is a old thread ...but i got one on my van ex disabled van works on a wiper motor and is chain driven can be opened manualy too. gonna get rid of it soon as i need the space to make mine into a camper van if anyone can sort my sliding door out so it closes as normal they can have it.. il be having a go at doin it myself in the near future but if anyone wants do do it for me its theres ...cheers mick

ok cool well il prob take it off soon anyway its gotta come off and im a wizz with a hammer and side snips
