Extra lights - driving or fog?

True its a pain at night seeing a car with there fog on that why mine are only for high beam and when i see a car with the fogs on i turn my high beam back on and way my fog are there till i get some driving lights

Hmmm...or you could just have spots with main beam for driving, then fogs for when it's foggy. Still I guess that's what it's all about, all doing our own thing.
Mind you - some sellers don't seem to be clear about what they are selling with descriptions like "Driving/fog lamps" or "Fog/Spot lights" I'll have to be carefull I end up with whatever it is I finally decide on.

All 3 sets of lights on mine are made by Ring and they all had whether they were driving/spot lights or fog lights

What I did was have a look on Rings website see if there were any that I likedthe look of and then popped down to Halfords to see them in the flesh so to speak and then see if I could find them cheaper on eBay etc

think driving lights need to be on with engine hence name driving lights. in europe you have to put lights on during the day. these are on so you dont get nicked for forgetting to turn on lights.....volvos!!!

Driving lights are wired to come on with full beam.

If you are fitting ANY Lamps below 600mm from the road...

i.e. in the Bumper, they can only be used when it's foggy!

Excellent advice - straight away I can see that 54's are driving and 55's are fog (small rectangulars) and these microline ones say suitable for flush or spoiler fit - that's me sorted then!

I think I'll go fogs in the spoiler/bumper - is there a front fog switch somewhere on the Mk5 because if so that would be very neat presuming the wiring is partly there, maybe a space for the relay in the proper box?

Are these old regs or does it just apply to retrospectively fitted lights?

Doubt you'll have the wiring in a Mk5.

I doubt the wiring will be there plus it'll probably just be easier to run new wiring than fanning around with wire that might possibly or possibly not be there. Just fit a proper switch so it looks factory fitted, I believe the fog light switch goes on the right hand side of the steering wheel, it's the same style switch as the rear wiper/ rear wash/ heated rear window switches. They're also fitted to mk5 escorts and some sierras


Mine had the plug on the on the back of the switch blank but no connectors for the relay in the box.

Oh yeh, I got a spare blank there, like the ones on the left not the ones top righ. Hey what is the one furthest top right anyway? I'm thinking it's rear fogs?
I'll look out for a switch for front fogs and go that rout then, I think there might be a plug there for it so I'm prolly in the same boat regarding the wiring.

You should already have a switch for rear fogs.
