I think that is prolly the best mod I have seen...ever! Nice and subtle and a real improvement - I wonder are the gears nice and positive? You should detail it so we can copy! How about an article in the how to's?

Could a similar mod be done for the automatic transits like my own 96, lwb auto where a console is built around the long selector stick with the plastic moulding sat on top of surround giving the apperance of a short shift instead? I have tried to have a go at showing you what i mean using my pc's basic paint program below

Just a matter of working out the increments needed on the cable, love to see it done. You could even buy an electric selector and have it on the dash if you wanted, but Ive never seen them here in the UK

I'm not that technical!, Yes I could make a decent enclosure box but "Increments" that makes me shudder, lol

Besides... I'm not sure if it would work thinking about it as the shaft of the stick is pretty long, you cant cut or bend it as it has the cable runnig through the centre of it so drawing the selector across from the park position down to say "1" would mean that the stick would be some distance forward from where it would be as opposed to its floor location.



Please forgive my crude drawing ability, lol but hopefully you can see whay I'm getting at as the original location of the secector display unit on the floor will have to be brought forward if its relocated on a new higher surface, resulting in the whole thing been brought forward at hand level. Hey... i prefer to think solution rather than problem but this set up seems arkward.

Or am I getting this all wrong and not thinking outside the box?

How about a Granada/Sierra 4 speed selector (A4LD), much shorter than the transit one, mounted on your console with a longer cable, which could be the hard part, as custom cables arent cheap, maybe work out a way of joining two together

yeah auto should be much easier - ive just fitted a previa column change on mine (but i do have a toyota box) it was really easy to do........... almost bolt on
