Excellent work - I'm sure these bumpers will be a god send for some!
For my tastes, a little deep, as Gavin says, if I could have done my one with vents and fog lights (basically not a million miles off a fibresport for a MK5 then) that would have been spot on for me.
But I can't wait to see these ones of yours driving around! And really looking forward to the skirts and rear bumper!

well at least it is provoking reactions and debates. so on that score its a winner

if you dont like it, i appreciate positive criticism as to why you dont and suggestions as to how it can be improved etc.

there have been a few good suggestions so far
3-door sierra cosworth style vents
something like johny transits bumper with cossie vents in the corners
some slots for some fogs
increase the ground clearance
more akin to a fibresport bumper
more parity with the age of the van

I for one love the ones that people like alann made for his van and appreciate the effor required to do it yourself. it truly is a labour of love.

I think the front bumper would enhance such a van as Pat's whereas on others it may look fuggly..I like it on the van in the pic.

Either way that yellow van is a eyesore..

How much ground clearance is there if you put it on a standard van??

I pretty much agree with a lot of what's already said.

It would look spot on on a day van or something like that, not so good on a work van though.

Something a bit more subtle would be great. As said something with holes for fog lights etc maybe mk3 xr2i style or escort cosworth style, something that's easily recognised as being ford if you see what I mean?

When I was doing my bumper, I took notice of a lot of bumpers and grills on cars and vans as I went about. Most seemed to be pretty ad hock - but the vehicles I thought looked the best tended to have a sense of unity going on between the grille and bumper - often the grille going right down into the bumper area, and kind of "outrider" bits going right up from bumper to grille area.
So, I am thinking - I wonder about junking the smiley grille and doing a unified grille/bumper - that way no compromise on styling and no annoying gap to deal with between the two - and those hopeless bits of rubber. I think there is room under the existing headlight to fit another light too, which would only work with a single piece purpose designed thing. Perhaps someone could draw something in paint shop or something?
Food for thought anyway...

The sizes on my wheels/tyres are as follows, this should give you some idea of the ground clearance before i get an exact measurement for you

Section Width: 8.46 in 215 mm
Rim Diameter: 15 in 381 mm
Overall Diameter: 26.85 in 681.99 mm
Sidewall Height: 5.92 in 150.36 mm
Radius: 13.42 in 340.86 mm
Circumference: 84.35 in 2142.4 mm


nice thoughts there jonny transit - i raised this very question with the fabricator before he started and it was something to do with build tolerances of the existing van being quite large and movement over time with age and repairs etc. i think you would need a pristine vehicle to put it on. its doable if there is enough interest in it. i think that and the other more subtle mods mentioned would make for a nice looking bumper for a none "sport look"

... mind you how sporty is an old di anyways lol
