To do the job properly to met the regulations for the taxi inspection you would need to strengthern the floor and then get an engineers report.

I know that all local councils have there own regulations but if you are only doing this because they say that there is not enough leg room then I think they might be incorrect as the leg space would be more than big enough for most councils and I would query and council that said otherwise!

Might be something to do with giving wheelchair access, though even with the seats reversed you would need to provide clamp down (not tie down) points for the wheelchair as well as buying or fabricating ramps. Someone on here made a similar comment about Taxi's after Fred showed her new arrival. I can't see how they would want you to swap the seats about as there are littrally hundreds of tourneos used as airport run vehicles and most also have the local council private hire plate on the back.

I'm dubious about this mod actually creating the required legroom.
Being angled the seatbacks would only touch at the top and then split away from each other downwards creating a gap on the floor. This would be putting a lot of the desired legroom in between the 2 front rows.

I'll be interested in seeing if you can pull it off as I'd want to do the same. At the moment thinking of just taking out the middle row altogether and going down to a 6 seater. especially after the insurance hassle i had this year for 8 seats.

By turning the seat round the seat would not be mounted to the floor on 'factory' holes.......Therefore the van would NEVER pass a MOT.

I'm amazed your Taxi licencing would ask for this!

I would ask them if they would pass your van on a council Private Hire / Hackney test.

I VERY much doubt it!!

I speak as a MOT Tester and a Private Hire Operator
If the vehicle does'nt pass the MOT (VOSA) due to a modification then surly there's no hope of getting a Hackney carriage inspection pass?

Rear facing seats do not need to have seat belts for MOT so is not an issue there! But I bet they will need them for the Council inspection!

I have to do this for a Taxi test and would like some advice as to go about putting another set of holes to screw the bench onto. :(
Thanks G
right :P unbolt your seats (might be a torx bolts not sure) place them where you want them - check your happy with it  then mark where all the legs go - you'll probly find none whatsoever line up :( so you'll have to make a new mountings - something like a nut welded to a 4"sq 1/4" plate weld this to the floor and jobs a gooden - do the same with the seatbelt mounts :D

as for the legalitys i aint got a clue  mine passed mot with rear seats and they didnt even look in the back but mines a van, if the mountings are done properly i cant see a problem :D
