Hi Madbri and whitemice,

Thanks for the replies,

Will check the prop tomorrow,
Its definitely road speed, not engine speed, faster you go, louder it gets, got to 50mph and then chickened out and stayed at 40mph.

Since fitting the V6 and MT75 and using the prop-shaft from Matt which mounts to the original factory mounting brackets on centre bearing I have done approx. 350 miles with no noise or issues, drove to a job and all was fine, then got in van to drive home and it started to make this noise from immediately pulling away :?:

Will check the alignment of the engine/gearbox and prop to axle :D

If you drive at 40 then stick van In neutral whilst moving (coasting ) does it still make noise... will help eliminate if its input or output related...
Gutted we missed ya at mania, do love the rumble of an essex at wide open throttle under load !!!

Sound and vibration level increasing with roadspeed to my mind indicates propshaft issue, Madbri may be onto it with the bearing/rubber.

Could just be some debris stuck against the prop. Would explain the flapper noise.

My handbrake cable rubs on the prop, surprising how much noise that can make, and of course when you check underneath you have the handbrake on, so it's not touching then.

Cheers guys for the input :D

Will be under the van tomorrow and checking things, will post my findings, if it is something simple to fix I will be extremely happy, as the thought of removing the gearbox again, single handled is a daunting thought

Hi all,

Sorry for delay, got under van today and put a straight edge along the prop-shaft and it is out of true. Running a edge along full length of prop keeping it true from back axle to centre bearing it is about almost 20mm out at gearbox flange.. The engine and gearbox are sat correctly in their mounts, the back axle is sat correctly positioned on its springs, seems like I need to move the centre bearing mount over slightly, but the adjustment slots are front to rear and not side to side, so unsure what to do.
As the Essex V6 is from a Mk2 ambulance is it possible the Mk2 transit centre mount was positioned in a slightly different place to my Mk3.
After driving and listening "harder" it does seem that the noise is coming from the centre bearing, under the van I can move the prop in its bearing but not excessively.

Cheers.

:D Sounds like a great idea Bri.... wish sometimes I could solve my problems with the same logic :?
Need to use the van tomorrow for work, so fingers crossed and 30mph all the way there and all the way back and hopefully nothing breaks or explodes
Will then whip prop off, if it is the prop, then I still have the Mk5 prop that I made the "fabricated mount" for (earlier on this thread) as I know that prop was running true.

Cheers Bri, No doubt will be picking your brains again later :D
