Seems the splines on gearbox connect with the clutch pressure plate ok, I think the end of the gearbox shaft doesn`t quite reach the spigot bearing in the back of the engine though, starter motor engages with ring gear ok, so looks like I need to modify the clutch release arm so as to move the release bearing further forward.

can you fill it with grease and fit and unfit the gearbox - just to see for sureso if the grease is untouched then it doesnt but if there is grease on the input shaft then it must touch

As I have put a 10mm thick adaptor plate between the Essex V6 and the MT75 gearbox the 6mm protrusion of the input shaft is not long enough to go through the adapter plate and into the spigot bearing on the back of the engine, therefore with this conversion the input shaft on the gearbox needs to be longer and protrude further out of the gearbox by at least an extra 10mm making the protrusion from the face of the gearbox at least 16mm, as there is a void space behind the spigot bearing into the engine the input shaft can be anything upto a 40mm protrusion from the face of the gearbox.

HI Lee, the Pinto/Mt75 combination uses a 10mm thick adapter plate, both Di and Pinto Mt75's use the same input shaft. I will dig out our drawings later today and post up the info. All the Mt75's we have here, including a Mk7 one, seam to have at least 3mm sideways play in the input shaft, all came from running vehicles, I had not driven all of them though.
How deep in the crankshaft is the front face of the spigot bearing? I can measure the one I have here and let you know.
