Guy,
is that the coil pack on the front of the head, drivers side as you look at the engine bay from the front...? ... or is yours in a different place on a BOA ...?

cheers

this suggests that the rubbers are not same as Di but the 86 on the cups mabe are - but aslo the Di mounts might fit in the V6 cups. :?

either way both the rubbers need replacing :x
just took a mount off an old Di i had in the garden (like you do) and the rubber part number is 86VB 6038-6A :? but looking at it - ive not had them side by side but i think it is the same :)

as far as the rest of it ive made a wooden template for the o/s engine mount inner plate, but i think it will be in the new year before i get it done :(

engine mount rubbers

Postby dipstick » Wed Dec 27, 2006 3:46 pm

Luke, i THINK that the different part numbers refer to the length of the threaded stud either side of the rubber, they are the same dia.

I have used Pinto ones, i think, they have a slightly (5mm) shorter stud length than the Di ones, but when in place in the engine mount, it won't make a difference, the rubber is in compression and a little shear, but no tension.

cheers ..... :)

finished the engine mount :D

Image

heres a pic of it being made basically i bolted the "proper" mount in the jig and welded it in place then removed it bolted the 2 plates i'd profiled out and welded in some gussets :D

Image

then a spot of black paint, sorted 8)

Image

and a pic showing the 2 together - the new one may look weaker but the ford one is cast so needs to be thicker to compensate for that :D aslo if you look at dipstick's monts they are different to mine so there must be at least 2 different ford V6 engine mount styles :?

Image

Im now gonna fit the engine in place - trial fit - it will be removed, cleaned and painted before it goes in for a final time, im just waiting for the rain to stop and if it does it will be in this afternoon

and ..... re. the engine mount rubbers my V6 ones are identical to the Di ones :D

well the engine and box is half way in  no probs getting it in bolted together plenty of acess with the mk2 front 8)

but ive now realised why there is 2 different engine mounts  dipsticks will be the ifs one mine is the beam axle one :x would have been fine but ive converted mine to ifs and it fouls the rack,(my new one as i copied the design of the ford one) not too much of a problem as i can mod it to fit but the o/s manifold is still attached and that fouls the bulkhead :x so thats gotta come off and it looks like the head will hit the bulkhead too  ah well

theres always tomorrow

8) got the engine sitting in on the mounts :D :D :D :D :D :D

the bulkhead amazingly doesnt foul while its sitting in but im not sure if i can get it in/out without scratching the paint :? and if i cant its gonna get modded, also some of the pipes might need to go back on  so chances are its getting some work :|

and to make it more awkward ive got the floor to mod for the MT75 box thats now going in too and a cross member so sort out for that :)

hopefully tomorrow i'll have more of an idea what needs to be done :D

Luke ,

RESPECT..... that is looking good, i am impressed with the mount you made... v solid!!
I never knew that there would be two types of engine mount....? :(
Mine are from a 1993 Amby, a Mk3 i think?

I had to mod the bulkhead of my (Mk 3) by an inch or so, to allow the engine to 'swing' into place, but when in and down on the rubbers, the cam cover just clears the bulkhead, right by the clutch cable....

i see that BOA manifolds are a lot more 'forgiving' than BOBs... :(

good luck....... :)

I assume you have plenty of crossmembers hanging around Luke? If not I have one here that was supporting a MT75 in a Mk2, its yours if you want it.

It would be nice to think you can get it (the engine) in and out without scratching the paint but I'm doubting it, plus you still have to take into consideration how much 'twist' you will get when you put you foot down, even with good mounts you still get about 20mm of lift one side of the engine :!:
