Yep the pole realley does get used! and yep the cable is Fusion 0 gauge all the way. 250 amp ANL fuse for motor etc: and 2 x 400 amp ANL fuses for the audio!

We've just got our van to go on a european jaunt for the summer. It's a mk5 lwb semi-hi top, red with a tree on the back



We'll be fitting leisure batteries to run the stereo and fridge, and to charge phones n things. As we're on a tight budget and already have amps and speakers for 240v, I've been wondering how much more the battery will be drained by using an inverter on 250-300 watts of amp rather than getting 12v equivalents. What are your feelings on this? We'll be running 4 speakers and a sub, and want batteries to last a weekend or so playing at decent volume.



Thinking either a big inverter running a big amp, or a small one for chargers and some car amps. Planning to get 2 or 3 100Ah leisure batteries;http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/slimline-leisure- ... dZViewItem

Welcome to the forum Weallybin. You might want to post in the tech section if you want some info on leasure batteries, or al least open a new thread so peopl notice your question rather than have it lost as a reply to a big thread.

then all you need is a battery and box ect...

An electrician friend suggested those batteries would not really be very suitable. (I bought 2 about a year ago to run an electric trailer winch)
Apparently they are used as back up batteries in banks and are changed every 2 years as a matter of course.



They are American made gel batteries and have a very slow discharge rate and if you discharge them quickly it buggers them. Said electrician, suggested they would be fine for running interior lights but not a lot else.



He was able to tell this just by looking at the numbers/letters ?

I tried this style of battery and they worked well for about 45 minutes and then the volts had dropped below 9.1 votts. hence the sound ssystem sounded S**t and lighting and other item either turn off or went dim and even killed 3 DVD screens! you need a deap cycle fast discharge style battery not a slow one like those shown above!
