but if i can get deck height to 1mm that would drop compression down to 17.3:1 thats using the 2.0 pistons with cc 28.
thats if ive got the cc right :?:
whats the best way to check fill the piston with fluid and measure it :?:

Well this is certainly a brain fade inducing thread. I am following most of it, and seeing what you are trying to do. Good work!
Re your alternator, electric water pumps tend to be expensive, at least in the Hot Rodding world.
I have considered using a 12volt to 240 volt inverter, to feed a Grundfoss pump, in my Thames van, should I need to.

The normal way to measure cc of a head is to put one piston at bdc, give it a wipe of grease around the edge to seal.
Then using a piece of clear perspex, across the top of head, drip parraffin in through a hole in the perspex. Purists would use a burette, but I would imagine a graduated syringe could work. Simply measure how many cc you are putting in.

The reason for using the perspex is to give a flat top to the chamber. Without it, you would form a meniscus on the fluid, which would be innaccutate.

Hope this helps.

thanks for that,
im bit confused now though, if i measure the capacity when piston is at bottom does that not measure displacement :?:

what i thought was the combustion measurement was the big hole in the top of the piston, and the space between top of piston and the head when its at tdc. :?:

ive found an electric pas pump of a astra/zafira engine so far.

i thought about just using the original water pump but connecting an electric motor and somehow altering speed with revs :?:
ive got a few dc vairable speed motors laid about :?:

i could use a grundfos pump though if needed,.

has anyone got any conrods with H on them they want to sell :?: :?:

then if i get a 3 notch gasket , may get the compression down a bit.

how do you guestemate what the compresion should be? things like Opposed-piston engines must have tons of it and they can run on out

use something like this http://www.vwspeedshop.com/Engine%20Calculator.htm
or this http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/compstaticcalc.html

found some more info here aswell http://www.fjr1300.info/misc/torque-power.html

Sorry, I have confused myself with my reply!!

The normal way to check volume of a combustion chamber is as above, that is on head a combustion chamber.
If the pistons are dished, and the head flat, you would need to measure the cc of the dish. Same principle as above, but piece of perspex across top of block.

I would be tempted to check everything, whilst you have it in bits. By knowing your cc of head, thickness of gasket etc, and stroke, you can get the Compression ratio etc for your records.

i was thinking if i can get the space between piston face and head as small as possible so that the combustion is as much into piston chamber as possible, it will raise compression slighlty, which should increase power.
Then instead of increasing turbo boost, i should keep it standard but allow more and denser air flow :?:

havn't checked 130ps pump no.s yet, but apperantly the 155ps pumps can create higher pressure.

Image

i have checked all no.s on the 2.0 block and are identical, aswell as the big 2.0 on the block  so far looks like ford use same block.

the guy i bought it off said it ran fine but was missing, the garage he had it at had it 3 days, and still no further forward.
then he asked if a compression test had been done, it hadn't.
They told him 3 cylinders were 400psi and 1 was 340 psi, so bought a new engine and fited it.

i know that you can have a maximum difference of 4 bar(60 psi) so wasnt too worried.

just done a compression test today and all seams fine

triple checked aswell, each cylinder gives 12bar on the first bang, by the 3rd bang each one is over 18bar.

starter and battery connected, and an old injector fitted to test each cylinder. glowplugs came out fine.

Image

i thought afterwards that the compression readings that had been done were too high so they must have been done with fuel still firing :?: :?
in that case it would mean an injector was down(missing) he also told me he had to get a set of injectors recon from ford at £130 each :!:
plus no.4 cylinder seamed really carboned up, as the injector nozzle was stiff when injector screwed down, also came out with it in pieces on the nozzle.
carbon build up is a sign the injector is not atomizing correctly or over fuelling.

it would be intresting to find out if it was no.4 cylinder that was at fault :?:

now i feel i dont want to split this engine and put it straight in the van :D

if only i could find a 2.2 engine with a hole in the block then i could strip that.

ive also measured the inlet and exhaust ports both identical to the 2.0 head.

i wonder if its just the cams that are different :?:
