no i dont ive been on about making one for years they are £250 to buy i know what you mean about the flat bit not sure how it would get on with it and how much you'd need to flatten

Not sure how much use they'd be if they can only roll a perfect arc, how many vehicles wheel arches are a perfect arc??

do you need to flatten any tho this van seems to not need the arch taken back (or mabe it has) - is there enough travel on the suspention - i had wellers on my mk1 for years and would regularly carry bricks etc. which would have the axle on the blocks and it never touched the tyres

Im pretty convinced I'd need to take the flat top on my arch up to fit these wheels, I recon the van in your pic is standard arch, but theres absolutely no clearance there is there!! Hardened suspension, or suspension stops maybe?? I cant see how he gets away with that! How much clearance did you have with arches and your wellers then? Mines a camper so its perminently semi loaded, I measured the arch clearance today, the van is pretty empty (apart from the new bonnet I just picked up ) and the arches were slightly lower then my wheel diameter. I bounced on the step at the back and the van had a lot of spring in it, nowhere near its suspension stops i dont think.

my wellers didnt stick out as far as yours will also i had 185 14C tyres on but i always seem to remember with the van on the blocks the top of the tyre was only level with the arch but mabe im wrong

just searched all my pics and they are all unloaded - and theres about 3" clearance between the top of the tyre
this is about the lowest one

Tap the rust off with a hammer you mean I recon i'd need an inch clearance at a bare minimum and thats quite a bit of tapping, Im not planning on going for the rat look van quite yet

Were your Wellers fitted with adaptors on? In your pic it looks like the wheel is well inside of the arch...
Thats odd how even with yours on the blocks the top of the tyre was level with arch at worst, why would mine be so different?? tired suspension? I need to load mine up and see how far it sinks till its on the block but I recon it'll go down quite a bit and the arch is already lower then the wheel!

I was trying to work out whether changing the wheels would lift or drop the van slightly because of different stud pattern, but i dont think it will as the wheel with tyre diameter is the same as standard..

just had another idea - what about redrilling the rears too ive now got merc rears on mine now (redrilled) but i had to convert to disks on the back as the 112pcd was inside the brake drum but your 140pcd might not be worth a check

that would give you 20mm enough

Yeah I remembered earlier you mentioned redrilling the backs before. Again Im not really sure whats invloved in doing that, have you done a "how to" thread to follow? Ive not had much of a look the mechanincs on mine yet, Is it just a case of taking drum off, removing a hub and having new holes redrilled counterbored etc through hub and drum? An extra 20mm should prob be enough i think yeah, will need to check that too.

Yeah my standard wheels have 195 tyres on, Im not sure exactly what profile they are but they're quite high, I assumed all mk2's would have the same size as standards..

Most Mk2s have 185s, we have 205s on the Mk1 recovery, they look huge but suite it.

Hmm, I find it difficult to know exactly what im looking at looking through the thread, I'll have to do some investigating, Im pretty disapointed about not being able to use wheel adaptors, what a bugger! Scraps my "keeping a standard wheel as a spare" idea too!

Whats the profile (side wall height) tho Fred? Do you know how that compares to my 195s? That could explain my lack of arch clearance...

they are a good few inches bigger on the dia 205's to 185's

I didn't even realise that's what they were, till I looked at the spare, realised it was smaller and had to buy a new one cos all the other vans have 185s....
