they are the mounting bosses for the halfshafts - to make sure the disk is perfectly centred!!

hopefully fitting em this week!!!

the axle is now gonna be fitted to the van and assembled in situ!!!

Hit a bit of a problem today found the brake disk centre is actually 0.5mm bigger than the wheel centre - doh!!!
I had assumed they were the same so my wheels wont fit on, anyway me dad is taking the halfshafts today and hopefully he will be able to get it all in the lathe and take a skim of the end
i can only assume merc hubs are stepped so the disk comes off easier - would be interesting to look at a merc hub to compair it

apart from that the axle is sitting on the van - just gotta fit all the calipers and pipe it up!!
then the next problem............................ the handbrake cable!!!

basically looking at the halfshaft with the boss welded to it the brake disk goes over that no probs but the wheel wont go over yet

You would have the same problem trying to fit MK4 wheels to the front of a MK3 van.

Well, me dad did the machining on friday went up today and they fitted spot on i now have the disks, calipers and wheels all fitted on the back of the van!!!

The problem i mentioned earlier in the thread of the calipers catching on the springs wasnt a problem didnt know what i was thinking they are miles off

The arch clearance is perfect, might have only just got away with a mk3 axle but thte edge of the tyre would have been outside the body line!!!

ive had a quick look at the sierra handbrake cable and it looks slightly tricky - the main problem is the transit cable has unequal lengths whereas the sierra one is equal
anyone know if the granada one is the same as the sierra or not

so just the handbrake, pipe it up - also need a new flexi hose and a diff input seal and jobs done

got the calipers piped up today! having a look at the handbrake cable - it looks like the sierra one will fit apparantly the granada one is longer if its the outer sheath part thats longer then it would be better to use that but my guess is its the cable length - if it is then the sierra one is the one to use!
the main problem is the tranny h/brake is off centre! it would be easyer to make the cable pull unequealy but im not 100% sure it would be any good for balance, i think it would but as it pulls equaly on the sierra to be safe im gonna try to get it the same!

im gonna cut the mounting brakets off the sierra next and weld them to the chassis crossmember where the tranny cable is mounted! then modify the linkage by shorteneing the rod so all the adjustment will be as it is on transit! the only thing is the pull wont be at right angles - so it will be slightly less efficient but the extra longer handbrake should make up for that
