vantendo revampings... firstly.. some thought

Postby Beefy » Tue Apr 10, 2012 11:41 pm

evenings allm hows it going?

as some of you might of heard, Vantendo has now been decommissioned (although will be dragged out for the Akeley Nats as is 2miles down the road) mainly due to reliabilty issues and not giving many signs that any journey undertaken will end under its own steam, along with rust issues that arent getting any better :)

basiclly its a show van and its getting embarrasing as its now bubbling and crusting everywhere.
and after spending over £200 on fuel to get to a show recently im toying with going back to diesel... (oh er)

so can anyone give me some advice on a few subjects.

how much more power do you get and how much more fuel do you use when comparing a n/a di to a di turbo?

anyone got experience on lowrider/air suspension, as i'd like to put jag back end, have "kit car style" wishbones up front,
completely modifying the front wings and grill etc, removing inner wings, fitting rack and pinion steering and a front "clip" tubular
bracing from front of chassis up to top of bulkhead..
so with the air ride, id like to a: pump it up for driving nicely, b: jack the back to give it's normal stance and c: slam it on the floor when "showing" off...

for anyone also reading this, i need both complete steps, lower sill, rear lower quarters, both mid sills (n/s sld).

basicly, next year im COMPLETLY stripping her, so throw in some sensible suggestions or advice...
would love v8 but i cant see the point apart from it sounding nice..... so an powerful eco petrol or a good easy fit (td) diesel...
i know you cant have it both ways....
someone once told me that i would regret fitting the v6, in a way i still love it, it is great! but just too juicey for my heavy right foot and
i just dont trust it on a long journey...

A heavy foot eh :?:
A 70PS with the pump turned down is what you need :!: :P

Seriously, an easy fit would be a TDI :!:
If driven as fast as a non turbo, would use the same amount of fuel :!: (but could you resist :?:   )

You'll be fined for driving it inside the M25 if you don't pay the extortionate £100 per every day you do so :!:
That'll throw out the Ace and Uxbridge show for starters :(

Pintos in my opinion have always been thirsty in a Transit :!: (perhaps a full load and foot to the floor didn't help me  )

Eco petrol will involve ECUs and the like, so in a way, more to go wrong  How good are you with electrics :?:

So what's going on with this unreliable V6 :?:

For panels, I think it'll be pattern parts only :!:
See if dieselhead123 memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=42705 can get them at a good price from his supplier

thats a bit extream for me bud.
im thinking tidy/dress a turbo engine up nice and shiney and keep it off the boost untill i need it.

to be honest the engine is a dream when its running, it dosent like to start even though ive got good earths, short cables, a good starter and everything is set up right.
going to wales didnt give me much confidence in long trips as when we got to a good hill it didnt like to pull up it like a torquey engine should, instead if coughed and spluttered and even back fired a few times even while moving at 50mph+...

it just seems that for every journey i do, i have the bonnet up twice. (i did know it was going to need more tlc than the di. but i do miss the turn on, tune in and cop out reliabilty of the diesel.

i think first i need to concentrate on the shell and rust issues, wings off axles etc..

they are fitted in a lexus LS400 you can get a full running car for peanuts :arrow:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-LEXUS-LS ... _602wt_932 - the wiring might seem a bit daunting but there is loads of help on the net - people fit this engine to everything :D

just dont go back to diesel what ever you do

with one of these V8's in you'd not need a heavy right foot it'd leave an essex V6 behind on tickover

i think whatever transit they go in you'll need to do a bit of engine bay bodywork

only ever seen one (pics) fitted in a mk6 :D

i was planning on fitting one in mine but i went for the more expensive straight 6 2JZ as it goes in with no engine bay mods :D
