yes and the new am/fm cb i got also has 100w pa horn attached to it via an ex fuzz amplifier!!

maplins do a nice 5 foot whip for £15

am fitting a uhf 40 channel today.got antenna and mounting bracket from auto parts store.had a choice of 2 types of bracket the cheap one that means drilling holes and bolting up or the dearer gutter mount type.went with gutter type as fully adjustable with hex key and easy fit.will just pop bit of old innertube under clamp so not to damage paint.no doubt chaos is about to unfold in these parts

Uhf... What frequency is that?
If you out rubber on the whip mount, you'll blow your rig up. Needs to be earthed to chassis ideally.
mag mounts get away with rubber as big magnet inside sort of still earths out as a ground plane...

Im still using my 20 year old K40 Magnamount. Its getting a bit tired now, so might have to put up the Sirio 4000, or dig out my 24k Gold K40

uhf is ultra high frequency.its popular here over am band.i prefer am but no one uses it.ive been running a bushranger 40 channel with side band for years gives 120 channels.but uhf is the go now sadly.works best line of sight or through repeater signal.antenna is really short and stubby against am.i did have a 6ft whip that worked great but not suited to uhf as it will blow the unit im told by truck drivers .

We used to have 934 here, never very popular, due to price and limited range, but that was closed down some years back and was taken over by mobile phones for a while. We used to convert TV aerials into beams for it. There is now a campaign to legalise 27MHz SSB here, but I think its 20 years too late.

So, is there a 'starter rig' anyone might recommend ?
is it best to wire them in or use the cigar lighter cable some are supplied with ?
where would be a good mount point in a mk6? had fancied using the little cubby on top of the dash but am guessing that as the speaker seems to be mounted on the bottom of these units it wouldnt be ideal??
also, are the dinky little 'discreet' antenna any good
would just be for listening to the 'crack' down the motorways

Cubby good place to mount. Speakers are crap anyways, get a cheap external speaker plugs in rear
