Ideas for lining the rear, plus lighting?

Postby mike331 » Tue Feb 27, 2007 7:42 pm

Having just got my first transit, I'm trying to figure out the best way of decking it out as I want it.

It's a 1998 80 swb semi high top with twin rear doors.

I am planning on lining it with ally chequer plate, as it's a bit lighter than ply, and it will be easier for me to keep clean. I'm using the van to tow my stockcar around, so I will be carrying tools and spares in it too.

I'm thinking I should take out the tatty ply, wipe the paint down then stick some vibration absorbsion matterial on the van sides before I line it with the ally. Does that bit sound right?

I need to have some good quality lights in the load space, I thought it would be nice to get some that could fit flush with the ally (in the gap between the panel and the plate), does any body know where I can get something like that or if it's been done before? I'd like to put say two each side almost into the corner of roof and side, that way it should light up nice and even, was thinking floro tubes or something?

8x4 sheet of chq. plate is about £130+ IIRC, and you'll need 1.5 for the floor in a SWB. If I was gonna use the stuff I'd probably just screw it down on top of the ply, to kill the vibrations.

BTW I have LED strips in the back, fairly bright and power consumption is tiny

Down near the bottom - http://www.fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8943

Cost 40-50 notes for the set off ebay, it's sold as under car lighting, you get 2 36" and 2 48" strips, all the wiring and a keyfob remote which works up to some silly amount like 100m away. I've have the 2 large ones on 2 roof pillars, and the 2 smallers ones in the shelves. They also do all sorts flashing/chasing type stuff, even to the music if you want! But I just leave it on the static function then just use the power button on the remote to turn on/off.

Hi Mike. Will be very interesting to see yours when its lined in ally chequerplate.I too have just recently aquired my first tranny..a 2000 Swb, which i use mainly fro courier work during week, but every weekend spring/summer trade at bike rallies, so will be sleeping in it every weekend. Its already lined, but having just boxed in the LPG tank, i want to put light grade chequer plate over the existing ply, but the cost has put me off..good luck, will keep an eye out for the finished article!

Take a look at this stuff, I put my first lot in my 51 plate 100t280 & then removed it & put it into my 53 plate 125t280, just about to take delivery of my new 130t280 & was going to put in there but my brother wants to buy the van so I am now going for their globylist range, fantastic looking stuff, fully crash tested & lasts for years
