If anyone else is interested in putting a V6 Essex into their van but don`t want the hassle of all the modifications, I have a 4 speed gearbox with V6 bell-housing and overdrive on 3rd and 4th gear, complete with prop-shaft, cross-member, engine plate and gearstick (removed from a mk3 ambulance with Essex V6 in it) currently for salehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261431110390? ... 1555.l2649
all you will need is an Essex V6 with Transit engine mounts :D

[quote="Leeday"]Found a scrap yard today which had a mk4 2.5 diesel tipper transit in it (mwb I think) , so removed from it prop front bearing mount that bolts to chassis, throttle cable, power steering reservoir mount bracket, clutch pedal return spring and all that cost me ... £5.00 :D WOW loving that scrap yard:

Which scrap yard had the tipper , need a couple of bits

Was very satisfying watching it all come together with a new lease of life and a fresh coat of paint !

Thay are handsome lumps when dressed.
Yours will look sweet as in that bay soon.
Treat it to a 14inch chrome pancake filter...

Oh yeah, i had to move my fuel lines as was using Di lines but They were dangerously close to n/s exhaust manifold, which, if timing is retarded,WILL GLOW RED HOT...
I got a load if 3/8inch i believe fuel hose and moved to flow grom tank thru a gap into the crevace in mk5 lower shelf type thing.
From there up to carb, return down back of lump n box back to tank...
Nice and far away from manifolds. I even braided my hose with leftover brading from years back...
Should help stop vapourisation issues in traffic.
Set ignition to 13degrees before tdc with vac advance temp blocked.

Hi Lee.
A mate of mine lives in Niton over there and comes over to Haywards Heath area at the start of every month. I`m sure he would bring you any bits back if you couldn`t get them delivered. They can always be dropped at mine,

Week 3

New sump gasket arrived in store, so went and got it along with new oil filter, blue hylomar and some exhaust assembly paste:

Image

Fitted my modified sump:

Image

As I had the engine crane on hire for 2 weeks :? I have returned it, so engine has to attach to gearbox via my trusty 3 Tonne trolley jack, so as not to damage anything (trolley jacks always having a small area of contact, I made up a support plate using 12mm exterior ply and some batten wood to stop jack slipping, this will all go under the sturdy modified sump:

So jacked up engine, removed axle stands and started pushing, twisting and spinning the engine to attach it to the gearbox :? eventually it decided to slot together :D got some bolts in to hold the two together, lowered engine into it`s mounts and I thought yippee, success.
Got under the van and checked the clutch arm had resistance, but wait, what now....... arm moves freely backward and forward without the clutch release bearing touching the clutch plate      OMG.
What should I do .......... I know phone Tim
Jacked engine back up, removed all bolts, split engine, put it back on axle stands in the engine bay and removed clutch arm and release bearing.
Took photos and sent to Tim:

Seems I have the right arm and bearing, and the right clutch cover, so being as this Essex is a Ford SVO we are now wondering if the flywheel is different from the car variant of the Essex V6:

Depressed now, so any input will be greatly received

Firstly ,if you need a hoist give me a shout , second are you 100% sure the arm was locked into the pin properly , third was the cable tensioned up ? They may sound silly but I have to ask

Arm definitely locked into pin, as I had to ping it out to remove it, didn`t even attach cable as clutch release bearing not even connecting with clutch cover so arm freely moving forward and backwards.

I can't imagine the clutch plate is shallower than a pinto , what engine did you take , have you still got it ? If you have can you measure from the back of that engine to the clutch face ?

Is it because of the adapter plate ? You may need to put a spacer behind the thrust bearing ?
