Another mk6 to mk7 conversion

Postby rangiep38 » Sun Aug 10, 2014 4:34 pm

Started the conversion on my transit lx last week, progress is slow due to work and family commitments.

Van is very straight but has lots of surface rust and some rot but overall not too bad, had the windscreen removed to repair the rust at the top of the roof window was cracked anyway.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I will be changing the doors before paint but I'm a long way away just now.

Got the inner wing top mounts and scuttle panel welded on, bolted the wings, headlight surrounds and slam panel on the headlights in. Stripped it back down to get the chassis ends cut.

Those plates on front of the chassis legs are £5 from ford if you need to replace them

One side was £5 and the other £13 but it's the same plate spun round :D

the more i look at these conversions is it worth it in the long run :( the swb vans suffer major rot in every pannel you can think of

and i found the reason for the major rot on the front wheel arches is because ford but the soak able silly sound proving under the bonnet above each wheel arch :(

Honestly no for the time and effort you would be better buying a mk7 but if you enjoy it then why not the work isn't costing me as it's a favour but the parts are

that panel you patched here is a only ford part at a cost of 84.00 including vat and the same for the inner wheel arch as well

i done one not long ago and the bill was more then the van was worth :(

Get some seam sealer on the rearmost roof seem, it's a common leak and rust location

Whole van is getting sealed, the panel beater has been at that roof seem just got the inside of it to do so it's properly sealed.
