These are the standard type i used in my headlights before i got projectors

And these are the kind I have now with projectors

The metal surround comes off the first bulb but it wont fit the projectors as the bulb base it too wide, so they aren't interchangeable.

I did my second lamp tonight and it took half the time and all i needed was a flat blade screwdriver and the mrs hair drier and look.

No real damage
Need to get black spray for them next but i don't know what else to do??

Can't believe you did that Loot mate

I just spent an hour with a high powered hair dryer, Stanley, screwdriver, various other bits and bobs and I've still only got one edge loose :?

The thing is tango, splitting headlights is much like making love to a beautiful woman.......

Just keep at it mate :-) i found that the sides kind of split and you can work your way round. :-)

Top tip, if you add anything inside that needs sticking on, don't use hot glue :x

On the side and bottom at the edge there is a lip, get it hot and bend it right back, then you can push the knife in behind the lens and start splitting/trimming the glue.
Don't use anything sharp, if you do it this way you'll realize that you were probably stabbing away at the back of the light and making more damage :-(

You can bend the lip back when your done :-)

WP_20170824_15_27_52_Pro.jpg

Now cleaned out, do I paint the black bits blue or not, going to fit some red LEDs or red halo rings to make devil eyes (for show not road use) N

Re: Split headlight club

Postby Greg71 » Wed Dec 30, 2020 9:23 pm

Hi fellas,
Just split my first headlight, genuine ford, off my van, 30 mins with a heat gun and screwdriver. Not bad.
Question is, should I use VHT paint on the bezel, and will it need undercoat?

Thanks for your help.
