Paint and bodywork

Postby Lurchersand1cat » Sun May 31, 2015 8:05 pm

As I have said previously I am a vehicle numpty however one thing I hate about Transits is the poor body work, every single transit I have bought has had to be replaced because of rotting bodies ( of vehicle I am not some sort of grim reaper).

So when I next buy a trannie what can I do....extra respray? Suggestions welcome but bear in mind I will not be doing the work myself.

Buy a metallic 1, there's 2 lots of paint and they seem to rust on the body less, although stone chips can still get through and cause rust.
Under seal the van as soon as you can.
Another option is to waxoil behind the panels (haven't heard of it recently but i has a mk3 escort and all around it there were plastic plugs which were placed in the drill holes where they'd drilled and filled with wax oil) no idea if there are companies that do it or whether it was an option upon purchase tho?

I saw a Mk7 08 plate yesterday on a building site, looked like it had never been cleaned and had mud caked on all the arches and sills. For an 7 year old van it was covered in rust around front and rear arches and the SLD sill was well on its way to rotting through. Just goes to show how important it is to clean all the crap off your van and protect it everywhere you can.

Rust comes no matter what paints on it
Its one of those things a van gets older and goes rusty
A person gets older you get big ears and a wrinkily dick and ball bag :(

I have 3 old vans at the mo
One metallic clear over base job, above^^ the rustiest one of the lot
That's an 08
This old boiler is an 05 solid diamond shite few bubbles that's all
Image
And this is the same place on the 59 solid tomato red the rust is in the post
Image
So from this one would deduce that met colours are sh***er than solid
However the 08 is southampton build and the others are from turkey
