Air horn wiring??

Postby trannydenz » Thu Jul 16, 2015 7:01 pm

Got 2 air horns to go on Mk6 skip truck one for either sides of the roof, each horn has its own little compressor, will I need to wire in a relay and fuses being as there is two compressors to power or can I just tap into the existing horn by dismantling the steering wheel, I'm thinking to tap into horn being as it will only be used In short blasts, thought I'd ask before I do it so I don't turn my truck into a barbecue

Use relays ... one for each compressor.

Thanks, Wouldn't one relay do the same job if I was to join the wires together from the compressors and then fit the relay after the join

Wire the relay onto the connector at the original horn is what's easiest.

The small mk7 relays are 20A :-)
You could use a slightly larger mk6/standard relay, i bet it'll be 30A.
you can use 1 on both motors it's highly unlikely that you'll power them for any length of time other than toot toot unless you are horn crazy? In which case you deserve to go to hell shhh there's kids in bed :?

Tested them on the battery and they're bloody LOUD , so decided to wire them to separate switch on dash using 30 amp relay and Inline fuse and picked up the live from fag lighter, also fitted vision alert led lightbar, thanks for the advice :D
