Fabricating a spare wheel security cover

Having had my lowering cable cut, and the spare wheel stolen, I decided to protect the cable from being cut again.
You can see in the picture below where the cable has been cut.



I've knocked up a thick steel channel to protect the exposed part, just needs painting after it's welded on to the new winder

Going to put a bolt through the floor aswell just to make sure.

Sounds like its becoming a problem.
Ive just linked your thread for someone thats had there spare stolen.
Could you make a few more covers for members? Could be a gap in the market.

Holy thread resurrection Batman! I did think about knocking a few out & even offered them to my local Ford Transit dealer, but it's only a bit of box section steel shaped to the profile of the winder mechanism, then welded on so easy to make if you can weld or know someone who does. Touch wood it's worked as I still have the same spare wheel 2 years down the road!

Edit I'm sure I posted this in the MK6/7 forum originally, maybe not! Would it be an idea to have a sticky folder of fixes/how to's for common problems like this, immobilising the drivers door lock, protecting the rear door looms & other security ideas?

It's the welding that's the problem for me.

Would it be possible for a "tab" to be welded onto the box section. this could have a hole drilled in it to line up with the hole in the mechanism, then bolted onto the van?

Couldn't say for sure without looking but I don't see why not, it's really just to stop someone reaching up there with a pair of cutters. I did think about just wrapping razor wire around the area, rip the thieving c***s hands to bits!
