mk7 ‘flipped axle’

looking to lower my swb low roof mk7, ive seen folk talk about the ‘flipped axle’ but im not 100% on what they mean by that or whats involved. does anyone have any pictures of theirs so i can get an idea?

If you look under the mk7 rear end you will see the axle and the leaf springs are bolted to the top of the axle.

By flipping it, it means moving the axle to sitting on top of the springs, so they run under the axle.
However, it means that the entire van weight is supported only by the u-bolts that secure the springs.

This is probably fine on a car etc, but I’d be hesitant to do it on a commercial vehicle.


IMO, far better to have the rear springs reprofiled or new lowered ones fitted.

But again, only my opinion.

i thought thats what it meant, i agree i wouldnt be too aure about running the van with all the weight supported like that. i use it as a camper and stay in scotland so wouldnt want to be up north and snap a spring
