Mefco wheels

Postby markbradleyf1 » Wed Jan 09, 2008 3:25 am

Does anyone know where I could get hold of some Mefco 8" x 14" wheels? Or are they still made? Alternatively; would it be possible to widen a standard set? :?

As it says in the wheel guide they are from Germany. Basically a widened or banded set of standard steel rims so is very possible to have some made. Not to sure what the legalities are of them though.

yeah thats what I thought, guess I'll probably get some made up! I wonder what are the widest size that will fit on the rear of a mk 3/4/5? And what size tyres to fit? Hmmmm....

Trouble is the Transit has a unique PCD, so you'll have the same problem finding different steel rims as everyone else does finding alloy wheels.

and btw - mk3 4 and 5 wheels although they look similar are all different - so make sure you get the 4 of the same mk

also just an idea  - mabe if you get them made up get them balanced before the tyres are fitted that way you could weld balance weights on the inside of the rim :? :?: just thinking they may need more than a normal set of wheels and loads of balance weights looks unsightly :D

Thanks Luke, thats a good couple of points! Im planning on putting the wide ones only on the back so balance isnt nearly so critical as on the front, but checking the balanced before fitting the tyres sure is a good idea. Ive heard that some Transits have 12mm and some 14mm studs; do you know anything about this?
