Courtesy light delay relay

Postby vegman » Sat Jan 26, 2008 2:16 pm

Hi all
Trying to fit this into a 98 mk5
3 wires from loom to the courtesy light are
orange = permanent +
black = earth
blue/black = door pin earth

5 pins on relay...this is what I've been told they are. The relay's from a scorpio
#30 connect to constant 12v
#31 connect to earth
#15 connect to ignition live to cancel delay function (optional)
#31L light to be switched earth
#31S Trigger input connect to door pins switch

So I've connected it like this

orange to #30
black to 31 and 31L
#15 not connected
#31s to black/blue door switch earth
and it don't work.
If I connect #31L to the black/blue then light comes on and stays on.
Relay clicks when you open door and after 20 secs on the first way I connected it.

Anyone successfully fitted one of these ? Cheers
Might as well as wish you had!

Is the switched output from the relay an earth or live feed?

So that's terminal 31L, I'll go check...
Pretty sure that it is a 12v- as it works on the 'earth' side of the bulb
So does that mean that the courtesy light needs another switch option ie an earth feed from the relay which is only connected for the 20 secs?

Right got it working.. kind of.
If I connect #31s to black/blue, #31 to black and 'bodge' #31L to join the off position on the light the relay works. But then you can't turn the light off on the switch with the doors open!
Terminal #15 does overide the relay when 12+ is connected to it.

halfords do a plug in one,
remove the pin switch from the door shut,
remove wire from pin switch and plug it into the 'stick unit'
stick unit then plugs into door switch

circa £4 for it
