Headlight stalk to head light switch??

Postby doughythevanman » Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:20 pm

Having a mad idea weekend and after some thought have decided to try and fit a headlight switch ( MK6 / 7 ) into my dash and do away with the headlight stalk. Has anyone ever tried this and how easy do you think it would be. I assume it would be a case of wiring only as the switch can be fitted to the dash easy enough. Any advice would be very helpful on whether it is possible.

should be possible, you'd have to cut the original off and then you'd be left with a hole

was thinkin about that and may have a parctise to see if i can blank it with a bit off another cut to size, glued from inside and a little touch up. Only thought after seeing the led conversion on them and thought it looked the dogs danglies! 8)
Is there a wiring diagram on here anywhere for the light stalk or do you know where i can get one??

i will be leaving the other stalks on unless i can find a way to change. Was actually debating using the stubby type stalks as i am looking into a aftermarket steering wheel and it will look a lot tidier. The only problem is i would also need the casing so will have to wait and see. What do you guys think?? If not the hacksaw is coming out!!

to be honest luke i dont really pay too much attention to the speedo  so wouldnt be an issue. I have a set of orion stubbies from an old car so may just put them on and see what it looks like first. When you changed your wheel did you have to buy the boss seperate and where did you get it from? Have seen the wheel i want but they dont do the boss for it? :?

whats the wheel you want :?:

i used a pukka transit boss for a mk1/2 and ground down the raised spline! but a mk1 escort or capri boss works in the same way :D
