roof mounted monitors

Postby executivetravel » Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:55 am

ive decided to attempt installation of a in-dash dvd player with motorised 7" touch screen feeding 1 or 2 roof mounted flip down monitors.

having a tourneo means i have a headlining with soundproofing retained by big push clips so locating the roof ribs seems quite easy, but with the ribs being in the wrong location i thought about bolting a strip of ally 5" wide from the first (would be bulkhead) rib to the last and fitting the flip downs to that, this could also mean routing cables wouldnt require removal of the headlining.

i also need the 1st monitor clear of the rear aircon/heater controls which are roof mounted, mounting a monitor directly to the rib would obscure the controls.

has anyone done anything like this?

i fancied a 10" screen, do they move much when used in motion?

cheers

examples.............

ive got a flip down screen in mine but its a mark 5 tourneo its dead simple they come with a metal bracket with 4 holes it it to screew the screen to all i did was drill 2 holes in the middle of the plate then bolted it to the first rib in the roof then used the 4 holes on the edges of the bracket to screw the screen to the bracket job done when its fliped down the only bit that moves is the screen its self the housing it sits in stays put so to speak

mines a 55 plate, mk6? the aircon is too close to the rib to bolt direct.

what size screen does yours have and when moving is the screen ok?

just realised i have a row of lights and air vents straight down the centre of the roof so i think two rows of square section ally will do it, one either side of lights/vents

my xbox is powered from a box i got off ebay you take it apart and it fits inside the xbox and converts it to 12v and the av input goes to a box that connects direct to the screen you could run your xbox off your inverter if you wanted to

Just go for the 7" display
