6 stud to a 5 stud on a lwb 190

Postby intransit89 » Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:37 am

right then after my mot is sorted

i may try and do some axel swaps as my white van was scraped my mates kep my front axel seing as the back one was sold on here :D but he maybe geting a other for me  .

the thing is for the rear is it just undo the brake pipes.
the hand brake cable.
the bottom bolts on the shocks and leaf spring front mounting bolt and the rear spring shackle and prop shaft?

and put the 5 studer in place and re bolt up using the 190 leaf springs would be best i think not sure tho

as for the front axel
would it just be the flowing

is it just bottom ball join bolt.
undo the 4 bolts on shocker.
track rod end of take all the hub of in other words and take the brake pipe of with the union bolt?
then put the 5stud hub back in?with the 5 stud brake caliper.

but will the union bolt fit stright in to the 5 stud brake caliper as iam not sure if thay the same size etc ie 6 stud and 5 stud

int in your case i would MOT it 1st as you might uspet the brake force it needs to pass if you have that on top of the rest of the failures you might end up never getting it done :(

MOT it then have a go  you will have a year to make sure its all ok before the next MOT :D

I think the stub axle is the same inty. The calipers are the same, but the carriers are different.

I was wondering if you could put the big brakes off the 6 studders on the back of the 5 stud hub and have the 6 studs brakes on a 5 stud

thats the way'd do it - i cant see any reason it wont work :D other than you'll need 15" 5 stud wheels - which rob doesnt have :(

It has crossed my mind, but im not planning on it any time soon (although I would like wellers 8) )! I have 7 6 stud wheels with very good tyres, no 5 stud axle and no 5 stud wheels... and im poor!

If someone wanted to donate the parts I would happily have a go
