Headlamp Washers Onto Mk6

Postby Dan T » Mon Jan 26, 2009 11:52 pm

Has anyone fitted headlamp washers to their mk6 :?: I was thinking about this last night and quite fancy doing this mod.
Thought of a small twin jet mounted to the front bumper either side, but would the existing washer pump be powerful enough to run four extra jets or would i need to wire in another pump ?

It's just a pain wiping them all the time
It was just a thought more than anything else really.

Seen them on a few mk5's and on my mates 05 mondeo (got the factory HID's 8) )

The washers clean most of the horrible road spray off, which is what i'm after.

Don't know what kind of washer jets i'd go for thou, Possibly some universal ones which i could mount to the bumper (chromed obviously 8) )

you could always try and mod some sierra or granada headlight wipers to fit as the washer jets are on the actually on the arms

I was part way through collecting the bits when this appeared, since then I've got it all !
Bottle & tubing is from a Scorpio (not Granada Scorpio :) ), washer jets are from a Granada (mk3).
I offered the bottle up, inside the engine bay behind the o/s headlamp, it was o.k. but I couldn't attach it properly it interfered with the cold air inlet and the drain tube from the scuttle.
So I offered it up under the o/s front wing & it looked promising. So I removed the headlamp & bumper corner, then started cutting metal

Unfortunately I didn't measure just guessed so cut more metal than strictly necessary(but it is awkward to get the cutter in).
Image
Thats it in the final position I ran the tubes (which I had left as long as possible when I cut them out). They were barstewards to connect up, because of the different diameters.
Image
I extended the wires from the pump and level indicator & spiral wrapped them.
Image
They go through the bulkhead along with the cables for the cruise control.
I did away with the big blocks that hold the jets to the chassis rails on the Granada and just used the flat jet holder, offered it up, marked it up drilled through and 2 self tappers to the bumper, then that went back up.

Bit awkward to fill but I'll remove the headlight again & use a heat gun to soften the plastic filler & try twist it into a better position. Only got the passenger side jets to install now.
I got a little black book with me poems in

Interesting :)
I was going to take a pipe off the existing washer bottle then run it to a newly fitted pump to run the lamp jets. But this would mean re-filling it frequently.
Have you thought about wiring it so it will only work when the lights are on :?:

Dan T,
No I hadn't thought about that, probably not too hard but will need another relay.
I have heated mirrors that are not connected up so I was going to install heated (windscreen) washer jets (courtesey of the Scorpio too) switched with the mirrors use-ing a Sierra wiper/washer switch, one click for mirrors / heated jets on, then the 2nd squirt position for the headlamp washers.
W33ksy,
Only the one so far....... I am an old man takes me longer to do these jobs than the youngsters.
Plus I ache a LOT more at the end of the day.

I have only got the passenger side done of this too.
Image
I ran new wires/ courtesey light switch because I didn't know which was/were the live(s) in the door (and I thought it may screw up the alarm/central locking).Trouble is theres a courtesey light switch already fitted to the drivers side, so I gotta find a new position for another switch too.
