how to fit any steering wheel to mk6 transit van

more pictures to follow but you will get the idea from these.....need to remove wheel again to show you how it fits to column

Image

basically i sourced a mk6 wheel from the scappy and stripped it,

cut out the centre of the scrap wheel (to keep the boss/column fittings for later)

sourced a solid piece of aluminum bar around 6" high and a width to match the underside of the new wheel

mill out the underside of the new bar to fit the old wheels center inside thus retaining a strong and standard fitting wheel

make a hole through the center of the bar to allow cables for the horn etc

drill and tap mounting holes for new wheel at top of new bar

connect old horn wire to new steering wheel

Image

pictures will follow soon of dismantled boss..

This is genius! I don't have the skills or equipment to do this but REALLY REALLY need to fit a removable steering wheel to my mk4 motorhome so that the drivers seat can swivel! Is there any way I can get a kit to fit my vehicle (MOMO and Sparco don't do one)? If not, can I commission you to make a hub for me like the one you made? PLEASE? Thanks for your help... Mat :o)

pm aussieherc and matheway it would be incrediby hard to make such a wheel for you but it is possible i guess mine took around 15 hours to make and i had loads of help from proffesionals with all the right tools etc it would cost around £300 plus for someone to do mine let alone make it removable and be able to fit any wheel as well.....have you googled camper van conversions and or camper van accesories? on one of the first few sites i was looking at last week i saw a shop selling removable wheels?
