05 Crew cab tipper changes.

Postby winterheating » Sat Apr 25, 2009 10:14 pm

Just purchased a crew cab, 05 been off the road since it was 9 months old, at the minute its just the chassis, twin wheel axle without ABS :? , no interior. no engine gearbox, panels, most bits come with it to go back together apart from engine and box.
Paid 1k for it :?: :?: :?:

was thinking of putting a different engine in none transit, any ideas :?: :?:

also since its all stripped would be perfect time to give it more protection and thinking of painting it a nice colour, any tips from proffesional restorers welcome

and was thinking of maybe converting to MK7 while its stripped.

:?: :?: :?:

Also why does etis say its 7 seater :?: :?: :?:

Porsche Cayenne S engine! That thing weighs in with a kerb weight of 2225kg I think and its 450Bhp turbo'd V8. (The latest ones got 530Bhp). 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, averages 18mpg. One was on Ebay breaking for £1900 38k still in the car, think it was a 450 one may have been the lesser version circa 300Bhp but not that far off Mk6 engine prices! If you do that mate and you can handle driving it, you will become God of all Transits!! Just think, unladen you will beat a 911! Probably you want as many components off the car as possible. On a serious note I know the US mustang V8 engines are just plug and play with a custom ECU. I heard Toyota (Tundra) recently made some efficient V8's managing 30mpg combined - don't know if they do the Tundra on the continent. Re waxoil etc. I'm using shell WD6016 or something (Can't remember number exactly - number refer to viscosity and flash point in two pairs) for the interior of the chassis/wing inners with holes drilled and rubber grommet plugged to allow re-oiling every year - it replaces the Ensis oil you used be able to get. Probably worth getting anything dodgy sandblasted and cleaning it out and some more paint on it, I was thinking about using zinc primer and one of the two pack oil rig paints before sealing/tiecoat and using conventional 2k topcoats still looking into it.
My Mk5 was biodegradable and disintegrated with time.

thanks for advice,
that porsche engine is quite cheap considering what it is
ive always liked the tundras for some reason, a transit with a toyota engine, that is a good combination.
think i'd be sticking with diesel power whatever i do.

Sort of. Recoveries definately the most. I've seen the price for luton exceed tippers though in the last 6 months on Fleabay. Don't know why, scrap is low but I don't see any new mortgages about? Generally on MK6's I reckon this is true, as I've seen lutons, even dropsides you could pick up for a steal, perhaps MK5 tippers are too knackered now to hold their valve against the promise of a better condition luton. Mk6 Lutons, although they look nice, by nature have high mileages though unlike tippers which are just plain rusty. Recoveries just earn loads of cash!!

problem with crewcabs as recoverys is the extra weight comes off the gross so you'll be overloaded most of the time :(

what do you plan to do keep it or sell it on :?:
