'82 Australian manual to auto conversion

I've just picked up an '82 with 250 xflow on LPG. The stock Borg Warner gearbox is missing reverse & I would like to convert it to an auto. It was revving its ring off at 90km/h on the way back from the former owner's place so I'll be changing the diff as well (it seemed a bit noisy as well) - I haven't had time to scrape the muck off the diff tag yet to see what the ratio it is. It's my work vehicle & I'll be clocking up plenty of freeway k's - I'm chasing fuel economy rather than power on take off. I know that I could bolt up a BW35/BW40 or C4/C10, but could anyone tell me if I could use a later 4 speed with overdrive? .... ***Edit - After digging around a bit more it seems that an import early AOD 4 speed might fit the bill, but the BW35/BW40 or C4 / C10 would be cheaper.*** .... Would you have any recommendations on who would be good to do the work here in Victoria?

Electronic 4 spd wont fit starter on wrong side plus the ecm (electronic control module) gets a signal from engine ecu and since you dont have one. Best bet is a T50d 5sp out of a late XF, EA onwards engines have starter on l/h side and use v8 bellhousing. If you want an auto go for BW40 or M51, the diffs in aussie built transits have XF pinions and crownwheels so find a good 2.92 , also they came in LSD

Bloody hell, would make things a lot easier than fitting a complete Falcon axle...

any idea if i can change the ratio in the diff my timken axle to give my 4 speedbox a bit more legs? At 110kph its screamin its nutz off [its an ex postie van with a pinto in it] used to be an auto

If the diff loads from the rear its a borg warner and can be changed also has to be factory falcon 4.1 engine, if it loads from the front its pommie, BUT some one was trying to tell me that that 9" gears fit "sort of " dunno if its true

sorry forgot to mention its a 2.0 pinto in my van lol..im on the lookout for a celica 5speed with the ford conversion bits if you happen to come across one

great stuff i know i canget a sierra 5 speed from NZ and that would go a long way to solving my problem was also looking into buying the complete efi stuff for a sierra engined pinto iv been told the manifold bolts stright on ,,anyway ill have a butchers

9" gears or center should fit into dual diff , cant remember, you'll see when stripped, Where are you north/south? Ex bro inlaw did it in Lton many years ago. His had a 351 in it, But the seats were crook cos every time I got out of it I had a stain on my jeans

My truck comes with a spare truck for parts so I might pull the diff out of that and strip it down. Are Mk1 and 2 diffs the same?

Yep for the diff, I used to live in west Hbrt in 197sss a long time ago
