6 stud to 5 stud front hubs

Postby intransit89 » Sat Jun 27, 2009 9:14 pm

as luke was at mine i decided to have a go and we found out the

5 stud hub fits on hub bar

only down side is the 6 stud brake carryer catches on the mk5 hub so might try it the other way round if its crap to brake if i just use the 5 stud hubs and carryers

and for the quicker way to get some alloys on till i get some adptors made for the carlton alloys see what i mean see this post viewtopic.php?f=13&t=47376 iam gona buy some land rover wellers and give luke 30.00 to redrill them to transit 160pcd for time bein

will have a little play tomorow  swaps etc

the carrier does touch the hub but it still spins - didnt try it with the caliper in (while i was there) but looked ok :D

i think with new wheel bearings it would move the hub out enough to clear it - it was that close other than that just tickle the edge of the carrier up with an angle grinder should sort it :D

but all in all looks like for those with a 6 stud front swapping to 5 stud hubs and keeping the larger brake disk and caliper is possable 8)

i'll update this when i try mine as ive got some 6 stud brakes to fit on my 5 stud hubs :D

but ........ well done rob 8)

rob - keep this thread about the 6 to 5 stud front swap :D once we get a few pics etc. on it it will be a usefull guide for others doing the swap for years to come :D but if we set off talking about rear axles it'll just nd up getting lost in the forum :D
