on a serious note - have a look at early and late jumbos you'll see the panels are different the join is in a different place

I think its most pre 54 reg have 3 panels the extra joint is on the middle of the wheel arch.

I see what you mean but what would this affect? apart from there being another join, gona weld/bolt the sliding door shut so would have a join ther anyway.
and how hard would it be to swap the hi top fro a semi-hi top roof?

Looking for as new a van as possible, there was a 2006 jumbo on ebay with front end crash, engine in peices, gearbox smashed, went for £900 sumat, to far to bring back to scotland though.

That would be a crackin trailer, the axle is in the right place, Dont think it would matter if it was an early one with the seam above the wheel arch

i was thinking about this - what you could do is get 4 rear panels off vans with the join above the wheel arch - then use a caravan chassis build a base fit the 4 panels end to end - you'd need the rear doors & corner panels off 2 of the donors but the front you could just sheet so basically you have a proper trailer but with the look of a transit

Or what about get two older jumbos, Split them at the wheel arch seam so you have two ends with doors, weld them together and you have a walk thru trailer

all great idea's, sounds like a lot of work though. Still thinking that best way is to just get a jumbo, weld up side door, chop it where it will be balanced, take doors off, chop roof off, get semi-hi doors on, fit a semi-hi roof to fit. get a fibreglass nose cone made (blueline trailers will make one) and fit it. fit an A-frame and towing hitch and braking system connected to the rear brakes.

The worrying part would be trying to find out if and how easy a semi-hi roof will fit to the jumbo. Im hopeing that the semi-hi roof will fit to the jumbo where the semi-hi's are joined and that the doors will fit. If anyone knows more about changing the roof height it would be great to hear about it.

Long trailer with a single axle this might be unstable compared to a double axle, just thinking it might be like towing a caravan behind at that length

Yeah thinking on that note. The other plan will be to get a FWD, SWB semi-hi roof. Weld in a bulkhead to hold it rigid. Chop it just behind the front doors. Get a Fibreglass nose cone made and fixed to front so im not towing a wardrobe. Then remove the rear axle and fit in longer wheel arches to acomodate 2 axles, get two Trailer axles made up to the correct size, fix them to chassis, tidy up the wheel arches (make them look decent). Then wire up electrics to built in lights. and all done.

I was also thinking of putting a battery in it and buying a remote control kit for the central locking to work with a seperate transit keyfob, I have got the key were the fob is the key.
I'd put the caravan type plug in so that it can be charged off the vehicle, and also possible a 230v socket to charge the battery also.
Also will be putting LED lights inside wired up to the door switches, so when you open the door you have light.
I calculated that the remote central locking module i have i will get about 4 months out of the battery before i wont beable to open the doors.

Im wondering if there are any scale drawings of transit MK6 out there?

If not what is the external length from the rear to the back of the front doors of a swb transit?
