White van.

Postby Wildy » Fri Nov 27, 2009 6:55 pm

I've owned this van for a few months now and decided it would be perfect for my plans, oh and it was cheap!

And today I took delivery of this:

Image

Nothing unusual there, standard Di crank pulley? Well not quite. :?

Image

Hmm, whats this then. A mounting boss for: :?:

To go on my spare engine. 8)

And soon to be joined by this!! A supercharger.

I'll let you know how I get on. :D

I've got a pair of 24v lumps, unfortunately both straight sixes.

Charger is from a Mercedes CLK. The black pulley denotes 'low blow' version.
The engine is not a turbo Di so should be standard compression.
The pulley sizes are going to be best guess/whats available. The Di isnt going to be spinning as fast as a Merc petrol so there shouldn't be a problem with it spinning too quick.

Sadly no update yet. I've been working flat out. The project is still ongoing and hope to update soon.

I'm well into this, can't wait to see how it turns out. I'm gonna let you do the hardwork then I'll copy it! , well they do say imitation is the best form of flattery, or somet like that! Well done mate, cracking idea. Wonder what fuel comsumption will be like? Wonder what a diesel soulds like on full chat with charger whine? Uber cool project 8) 8) 8) 8)

I reckon you'll be fine with standard compression with upto about 6-7psi of boost, I know a few conversions that are available for standard compression petrol cars and this is the sort of max boost they recommend. As you say tranny will rev to about 2500prm less han the CLK so won't boost like the Merc unless geared up a bit. What does the Merc run standard boost? Bet it's about 6-8Psi.

If you want to run big boost, I know a guy that turbo'd a Golf mk1 back in the day, standard 1.6 engine + 1.6 TD Turbo and manifold (bolt on swap!) + 2, yes 2 headgaskets to lower compression!!!!! Don't know what he dd with fueling tho. On the transit I guess you can just turn the pump up to compensate.

Good luck mate, keep us posted on progress.

Bit of a sideways update: The van in the pic was in poor condition. Rear floor rotted out, all four arches gone, Exhaust flexi snapped, chassis starting to crack.... Anyway I then got offered a newer van belonging to a carpet fitter. Low mileage, recent bodywork. So I sold the 1st van, which has now been exported to Africa. Bought the newer van and... sold it within two weeks. I just didn't like it as much as the 1st one. So a quick trawl through ebay and autotrader threw up an even newer, very low mileage van with c/l and leccy windows. Sold as spairs or repairs without MOT or tax. I like this one!

So now I just have to redirect my efforts to getting that supercharger fitted!!!!
