banded steels on a transit anyone?

considering the lack of available alloys and the uglyness of those that are available, has anyone had a set of stock wheels banded or seen a van with them?

Whats put people off including me, is the cost... Ive got a pair of 6" weller modulars I want widening, but it just doesnt seem worth the exspense.

yeah i know, they seem to be the only company that do them, remember there was a feature on them in classic ford years ago.


to get the backs on 8"s or 10"s and the fronts on 7"s you're looking at around £350, which is a fair bit cheaper than a set of fugly dotz dominators for example...and a mk3 or 4 would look way cooler on banded steels than modern alloys.....

I wanted to add a couple of inches, but at £230, plus courier to and from, prep, paint new split rim bolts... not much change out of £330 just for 2 rims

I did see that on one VW forum they said it was half this price in Holland, but no contact details

Not sure what MK transit you have but you could keep your eye out for Mefco Transit wheels(German)

i'm planning on getting some slicks for the back of mine - just for drag racing been watching these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT infact 20 mins ago i was gonna pop out and see if they'd fit my van (but its raining)
what i'd do is make some 'banded' wheels to get them to fit, i know mines just for racing so there would be no 'legality' problems but if i wanted some on the van i'd have a go at making them myself doesnt look that difficult and it's something i've been wanting to do for years

I remember my brother mate had some steel wheels made wide for his VW mk3 VR6

I cant remember but i can try and find out what he paid he had them done from Germany and I am sure he did not pay more then £200.00

I will try and find out tomorrow.

i know they are expensive but how much choice is there for us tranny owners
if you buy alloys then some hub adapters or redrill your hubs how much does all that cost

no only on the rear,dont think i'll get wide ones on the front its gonna be too low

would you go up to 16" just wondering if you could knock the middles out of some landy wheels and weld the mk2 centres in obviously the centres would need to be the same dia but they would be smart looking wheels if they were

still bigger rims help i think mine looks right with 16's
i cant wait to see this mk2 of yours finished one thing i found tho if you want to lower it into the arches they sort of taper in quite a bit (more than the mk3 does) so you'd have to remove the inner arch or they'll rub - dunno if you've got that far as looking at it yet but thats whats stopping mine get dropped any more on the back and the front i've allready had it about 4" lower but i sh*t myself that i'd smash my rare front spoiler off i even needed blocks of wood to get it on the ramps for the 1st MOT ....... just too low .......the lowered springs were out for the retest
