ST Seats Fit

I finally got around to getting the pictures and text together from fitting the ST seats.

I bought a set of ST seats from a breaker. I got the full set (front and back) for £280

Original ST mounting

Stainless steel bar
M8 Allen bolts
13mm M8 nyloc nuts

I sourced the drivers seat base and used it for the new passenger seat.

I also sourced from a scrapyard longer seat belt mounting bolts and and spacers from a Fiesta.

Removal drivers side original floor mounted seat belt mount.
(ST seats have seat belt mounts attached to seat as standard).

To remove the passenger seat a special tool is required to remove the bolts.

Required is a Laser 7 piece 3/8” D and ½” D ribe bit set. The set comprises of M6, M7, M8, M10, M12, M13 and M14 bits. (More commonly used on cylinder head bolts). These fit all other Transit bolts as well. I bought mine from Halfords for £30.

Note: Torques are not strong enough, or good enough to do the job.

Note: New seat belt mountings sourced from a Fiesta (£2 for the pair). Also, rienforced with 4mm plate spacer on inside of seat base, secured with a nyloc bolt and lock tight thread sealer.

I Used Allen bolts to mount the seat runner to the base with 4mm spacers. This was a lot easier than using a 13mm spanner and a conventional bolt.

The whole job was carried over a period of 6 hours (ones all the parts had been sourced and collected together.
The Haynes manual said that to get the passenger seat belt centre mount off a special Ford service tool would be needed, but the ribe set did the job.
I found the job a lot easier to do with the bulkhead removed.

Parts / equipment required

24 x M8 Allen bolts.
24 x M8 Nyloc bolts.
2 x metres of 4mm x 38mm flat steel bar to make brackets
1 x drivers seat base
1 x tin of black aerosol
2 x nuts and bolts (Fiesta seat belt mounting spacers)
1 x Laser 7 piece 3/8” D and ½” D ribe bit set.

Hi Kram 60. I am currently trying to source the parts to do this to mine. Did you retain the original van seatbelts and use the Fiesta female part on the seat? Where did you get your drivers base from?

Thanks to your pictures and guide I now have a set of these in my Sport Van. The only thing I have done different is buy the proper floor covering for a single passenger seat, as the seat base sits directly on the raised part of the floor on the passenger side and I didn't think it looked nice.
Other than that, very helpful guide.
