Revamp Roof liner

Postby pwheeldon » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:41 pm

I have a 04 crew cab and the roof liner is looking a bit, sorry make that very tatty. I dont really want to fork out for new ones, it is 2 pieces which doesn't look great either.

I've thought about covering in carpet or fabric, but not being a professional I am not overly confident that my skills are up to it.

Has anyone done this or anything similar? Do you have any advice, hints tips etc?

Well personally I havnt done it yet (Thats yet); but ive asked around at our depot and some of the guys just nail carpet on, first they just lay it down, then with a sharp knife, slice along the edges... then nail as required(As you do have wooden batons under the plastic covering)... Please note, the more nails and the bigger the head is the better.. you can then go about and paint the nail heads the same color as the carpet you placed down.

I used thin carpet which stretches when damp, you might be able to recover it. I made a wooden panel to fit in the back of mine... I then used spray glue and tucked the edges in around the outside, came out quite well and has been up for about 5 years plus now.
Not a good picture of the roof, but gives you an idea

Hi, I took out the liners, soaked them in carpet cleaner then cleaned it with a vax carpet shampoo'er and have come up pretty good. I'll put pics in a day or 2 no Internet at the moment. I also thought about using some cloth dye on it to hide the marks. Will keep you updated.
